Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director – Government Affairs.

 The Federal Government Relations Director will be responsible for working with the GCA VP and Federal State Local GR Lead for developing and executing NYU Langone Health’s federal government relations strategy. This role involves lobbying and developing / executing comprehensive advocacy plans building and maintaining relationships with federal government officials and agencies and representing NYU Langone Healths interests in policy discussions and legislative processes. The Director will play a critical role in advancing the organizations policy objectives and ensuring the institution is up to speed on the latest regulatory and policy implications. Working under the direction of the GVA VP and Senior Director of Federal State and Local Government Relations in the Government and Community Affairs team.

Job Responsibilities:

Government Relations Strategy:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive federal government relations strategies to advance NYU Langone Health’s policy objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze policy developments, legislative activities, and regulatory changes that impact NYU Langone Health at the federal level.
  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations to senior leadership on federal government relations and policy issues.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of NYU Langone Health’s priorities, programs, and services to effectively advocate on behalf of the organization.
  • Work closely with leading federal trade associations and coalitions. 
  • Work closely and partner with state / city and community affairs to drive success on shared priorities. 

Federal Government Relations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with members of Congress, federal government officials, agencies, and key stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute grassroots advocacy campaigns to engage with federal policy and legislative discussions.
  • Draft and submit position papers, testimony, and regulatory comments on federal issues of importance to NYU Langone Health.
  • Coordinate federal lobbying efforts and manage relationships with external lobbyists and consultants.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Coordinating with other teams within CMGCA (e.g., Enterprise and Institutional Comms) to align priorities and ensure consistent and appropriate / accurate messaging
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, department heads, and program managers, to align federal government relations strategies with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to develop and execute public relations and media strategies related to federal government relations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry associations, coalitions, and advocacy groups to advance shared policy objectives.
  • Represent NYU Langone Health at industry conferences, public hearings, and other events to promote the organizations policy priorities.
  • Prepare regular updates and reports for internal stakeholders as a way to educate stakeholders on key issues.
  • Develop and drive grassroots advocacy campaigns tied to federal policy priorities.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies related to lobbying and advocacy activities.
  • Prepare and submit required lobbying disclosure reports and other regulatory filings.
  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking and reporting on federal government relations activities, outcomes, and impact.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior leadership on federal government relations activities and policy developments.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor’s degree in public policy, Political Science Law or a related field. Seven to ten years of experience in government relations, public policy or legislative affairs. Some experience on Capitol Hill required. Proven track record of developing and implementing successful government relations strategies. Strong understanding of the legislative process and policy advocacy at the federal level. Excellent communication interpersonal and relationship building skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under pressure. Strong organizational and operational management skills

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in public policy Political Science Law or a related field Experience working in healthcare advocacy with healthcare organizations or in the federal government e.g. White House, Senate office, Congressional office or HHS

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $117,107.95 – $195,179.92 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Step 1

Apply Online

The NYU Langone hiring process begins with you applying through our online portal. Be sure to update and upload your resume. Shortly after you submit your application, you will receive an email confirmation. Ten days after applying you will receive a talent assessment to be completed.

Step 2

Schedule Interviews

If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.

Step 3

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
