Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a FGP Spvr-OphthalmicTech(37.5). The incumbent will be working in our Brooklyn and Staten Island locations.

In this role, the successful candidate The FGP Spvr-Ophthalmic Tech is responsible for the oversight of the Opthalmic tech staff, workflow, training and education. Acts as a tech as needed, responsible for tests and measures eye function to assist Ophthalmologist to diagnose and treat eye disorders and disease: Tests patient’s far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception to assist Ophthalmologist to diagnose and treat eye disorders and disease. Examines eye, using slit lamp, for abnormalities of cornea, and anterior and posterior chambers. Applies drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Delegates, coordinates and evaluates the work of the Ophthalmic Techs; makes sure office is adequately covered; monitors and maintains ophthalmic clinical equipment; assists in minor surgeries, such as post-op problems; and sterilizing instruments
  • Performs all aspects of visual acuity testing and Visual Field Testing.
  • Completes Medical History, Lensometry, Auto Refracting, Pam Testing, Glare Testing.
  • Slit Lamp Examinations.
  • All Patient Correspondence including but not limited to: Disability Forms, Patient Education, Surgical Consent>Forms.
  • Evaluate employee performance.Resolves employee issues and addresses procedure and performance related issues. Authorizes attendance, schedules, and sick time changes. Establishes office procedures and communicates responsibilities and expected performance to staff. Trains staff according to specific job responsibilities and expectations. Ensures appropriate cross-training and cross-coverage for all practice administrative activities. Resolves all complaints and problems using independent judgment and decision making skills, to ensure patient satisfaction and adherence to faculty practice standards

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor’s Degree + 3 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in a retina practice or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from a Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel (JCAHPO) approved institutional course preferred or working towards obtaining certification. Prior supervisory experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferable 5 + years experience in Retina Practice. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant
