We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as the Director of Nurse Recruitment.
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the functions of the Nurse Recruitment Department within Human Resources and reporting to the Senior Director of Talent Acquisition. You will oversee recruitment of all levels of nursing staff for the Departments of Nursing across the NYU Langone Campus. Primary accountabilities include: development of advertising and recruitment strategies; assessment and projection of nurse and related staffing supply and demand using national and regional data; guidance of respective Directors and Nurse Managers in the hiring process; active leadership in retention strategies at the department and service level; collaboration with the Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer and Human Resources in the development of compensation and other benefit programs for nursing staff; guidance and mentoring Nursing Recruitment staff; development and oversight of the budget for the department; collaboration with the Director, Nurse Managers and the Business Manager of the Departments of Nursing in maintaining accurate and timely staffing position control; assure compliance with all hospital and regulatory standards.
- Recruitment Activities – Oversees the sourcing and recruitment process to ensure quality applicants are referred and vacancies are filled expeditiously. Oversees recruitment activities to ensure they are in compliance with legal requirements such as immigration, licensure, EEO/AA etc. and appropriate documentation is secured at all the recruitment sites. Recruits for executive and senior managerial staff, utilizing discretion and judgment when selecting and referring applicants. Performs periodic outreach to hiring managers to ensure referred candidates are meeting expectations.
- Recruitment Strategies – Identifies potential new strategies that will enhance and increase efficiencies of recruitment activities. Researches, develops and coordinates new methodologies that enable continuous quality enhancement and availability of applicants. Evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs and recommends changes as appropriate. Responds quickly and effectively to inquiries from the Directors and Sr. Vice President regarding recruitment issues, problems, etc. Negotiates and contracts with various sources i.e., schools, professional associations (including negotiation of agency terms) in order to develop and maintain long term cost efficient recruiting sources. Develops systems for measurement of performance against goals. Develops creative recruitment techniques (i.e., promotional literature and items, media relationship, etc.).
- Human Resources Leadership Team – Participates in all Human Resources leadership meetings contributing to the overall direction and effectiveness of the Human Resources division. Supports team development and collaboration among Human Resources leadership by engaging in open and honest communications that enable a shared vision of excellent customer service, the ability to explore different perspectives among team members enabling different decision making and thoughtfully sharing candid opinions about all Human Resources initiatives and activities while respecting the value that each team member represents.
- Works collaboratively with the appropriate purchasing, legal, and hospital departments in the development and execution of contracts for agency personnel. Co-Chairs Recruitment & Retention Council meetings with Directors of Nursing of Clinical Departments, and Operative Services per Service and Unity structure standards, develops an aggraded summary of issues, solutions, and challenges on a periodic basis for use by nursing leadership.
Education: Baccalaureate in Nursing, Master’s in Nursing preferred, or Health related field acceptable;
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in nurse recruitment leadership;
Excellent skills in verbal and written communication; refined interviewing skills; strong, effective interpersonal and interdisciplinary relationships, teambuilding, and change management skills, self-directed, flexible, creative.
Commitment to professional practice, including advanced nursing practice, hiring and development of BSN graduate, leadership development; enhancement of the Forces of Magnetism; the NYUHC Standards Model, and participatory leadership.
Computer proficient, ability to use databases, and to produce statistical and graphical reports;
Participation in professional organizations, such as the Greater New York Association of Nurse Recruiters, National Association for Health Care Recruiters Association, AONE, and NYONE
Licensure: Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York;
Experience: Minimum of 4 years in nursing practice in an acute care institution, preferably an academic medical center
Certification as Health Care Recruiter (CHCR) highly desirable
