Major Initiatives at NYU Langone

Major Initiatives

NYU Langone Medical Center has never been in a better position than it is now. We are building on our institution’s long and esteemed history to reach our potential as a world-class institution, and our extraordinary progress is possible thanks to an organization-wide commitment to our vision. Our Major Initiatives include:

Patient Care

We are continually adding faculty members and expanding our reach to better serve our patients, while faculty and staff continue to focus on patient safety and improving the patient experience. In 2012, NYU Langone Medical Center was ranked 8th among the top academic medical centers in the country for patient safety and quality on the University Health System Consortium’s “2012 Quality and Accountability Scorecard.” Our physicians are also noted among the best, with 116 NYU Langone physicians being named “Best Doctors” by New York magazine.

Research

With over 479,000 square feet of research space, NYU Langone Medical Center has been the incubator for groundbreaking discoveries, some of which have led to Nobel Prizes, and all of which have helped advance the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Our researchers’ work continues with more grant proposals than ever before.

Education

Our students and faculty are shaping the way medicine will be taught in the future. We are actively transforming medical education with our new Curriculum for the 21st Century (C21) – a patient-centered and learner-centered curriculum. NYU Langone Medical Center also offers an Advanced Learning Exchange (ALEX) that serves as a central resource for online medical education content and computer-based learning activities.

Campus Transformation

This initiative is at the forefront of reshaping NYU Langone Medical Center as a world-class institution, with ongoing plans for new facilities, upgrades, and expansions. When complete, our Campus Transformation will represent the most sweeping revitalization in our 171-year history, set a new standard for academic medical centers, and define our future for decades to come.

One of the biggest changes will be the Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital, a 160,000 square foot state-of-the-art pediatric hospital on the Medical Center’s main campus. Integral to the design are all private rooms, making it the only pediatric inpatient facility in Manhattan to have this feature. Comfort and safety take priority throughout the Pediatric Center, with carefully created child and family-friendly spaces for treatment and care.
