Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Registered Dietitian – Liver Transplant.

The Transplant Registered Dietitian (TRD) is responsible for providing optimal nutritional care and coverage for both in- and out-patient transplant patients. Duties include nutrition screening, assessment, support, counseling, metabolic monitoring, and medical team communication. Act as an ambassador for food and nutrition services while delivering world class care. The TRD understands the unique needs and metabolic derangements of patients suffering from end stage organ disease. The TRD interacts with the interdisciplinary transplant team formulating recommendations specific to this population. The TRD also understands the unique needs surrounding living donation for both donors and recipients. The TRD will have a presence at conferences, research, quality, and advancing the field. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • In-Patient
    • Assesses pre, peri, and post-transplant and living donor patients on their admission according to department and hospital service standards.
    • Evaluate patients’ nutrition status/risk, needs, and develop appropriate medical nutrition therapy (MNT) interventions and follow up care plans.
    • Complete initial nutrition evaluations for transplant candidacy.
    • Attend daily rounding and weekly listing meetings with the interdisciplinary team.
    • Provide thorough discharge education about nutrition recommendations post-transplant.
  • Out-Patient 
    • Cover evaluation clinics, and understand selection criteria, of potential organ recipients and donors.
    • Provide education on nutrition in the transplant process, one on one nutrition assessment and evaluation for candidacy, and further personalized education as warranted.
    • Apply knowledge of nutrition to develop appropriate interventions and care plans for individual patients including supplementation, laboratory monitoring, follow up needs, and referral recommendations.
    • Be present on patient annual follow-ups with the teams.
    • Participate in quality initiatives and attend QAPI meetings for assigned population.
  • Other
    • Knowledgeable of transplant micro- and macronutrient requirements and the nutritional impact and food/drug interactions of relevant medications.
    • Function as a resource person to Dietetic Interns, residents and medical team regarding the nutritional management of patients both inpatient and outpatient.
    • Participate in internship preceptorship.  
    • Provides in-service education.
    • Provides assistance and contributes new ideas to the department.
    • Plan work assignments and utilize time effectively.
    • Provides cross-coverage to all organs as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition Sciences or a related major.
  • Successful completion of a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education CADE 1200 hour dietetic internship program with emphasis on clinical applications.
  • Registered Dietitian RD.
  • Successful completion of the RD exam approved though the Commission on Dietetic Registration CDR the credentialing Agency for ADA must be obtained within the first six months of employment Certified Dietitian/Nutritionist CDN. Must be obtained within 1 year of hire date.
  • Effective oral written communication and interpersonal skills.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $83,418.93 – $95,815.72 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Step 1

Step 2

Schedule Interviews

If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.

Step 3

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
