Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Supervisor of Occupational Therapy (Pediatric Outpatient). 

In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for the daily operations of their unit. Provides ongoing supervision of all direct patient care staff who are assigned to a designated unit. Responsible for keeping the Manager/Director informed of all relevant updates both clinically and operationally.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plans, organizes and monitors all unit patient care activities given by assigned staff. Reviews all referrals and schedules patients accordingly. Monitors individualized patient care programs to ensure consistency with prescribed treatment and compliance. Ensures all daily rounds, conferences, and other meetings are attended and appropriately represent the unit re: patient care. Functions as a liaison and resource person with physicians and other disciplines regarding all patient care activities. Plans appropriate daily staffing for patient care and assists in providing coverage to other units when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Oversee the storage and maintenance of supplies and equipment for the unit. Maintains equipment according to departmental manual ( i.e. ensures that all electrical has been inspected and cleared on a routine basis, that all patient care areas are supplied with the necessary equipment to provide safe, effective care, etc). Delegates responsibilities regarding routine care and procurement of additional equipment to staff members. Submits recommendations to the Manager/Director for both capitol and non-capitol purchases as requested.
  • Maintains unit records and prepares reports required by the department. Completes all weekly and monthly data collections and analysis and submits reports to the Manager/Director on a timely basis. Assists in maintaining compliance in all regulatory requirements including but not limited to JCAHO and CARF. Able to have staff understand rational for compliance with such regulations.
  • Plans, develops and implements new procedures for the unit. Suggests and presents ideas on the formulation of innovative patient care programs based on current advances in the field. Identifies plans and future needs (i.e. staffing, resources, etc) and problem areas of the unit, assisting in the development of workable solutions and follows through with their implementation. Exhibits initiative in program and staff development and integrates department and unit goals into supervisory duties.
  • Assists in developing goals, standards, and evaluation criteria for performance improvement. Identifies areas of patient care for performance improvement projects and works in conjunction with other management staff to ensure compliance with projects. Solicits feedback from the staff regarding the unit direction and utilizes it for growth and development of professional and patient care standards. Reports on PI projects at quarterly PI meetings.
  • Exhibits ancillary leadership and promotes unit activities that support the professional development of the staff. Supports the student program. Conducts in-services and provides opportunities on a regular basis for staff to meet with others regarding patient care. Encourages staff to attend all in services, rounds, and lectures, and to pursue a course of professional growth in evidenced based practices, research initiatives, continuing education, in-services, and student program. Actively engages other colleagues in clinical learning experiences. Pursues own area of interest and develops them into area of expertise.
  • Evaluates and documents staff performance in a timely and thorough manner with detailed narratives outlining strengths and areas for improvement. Evaluates clinical performance on an ongoing basis in all clinical areas. Completes all probationary competencies and evaluations on new employees in accordance with personnel policies and procedures. Provides effective feedback and counseling to employees for performance improvement and/or development when necessary. Ensures that the Medical Centers disciplinary processes, policies and procedures are implemented in a timely and appropriate manner when indicated. Conveys the concerns, attitudes, and moral of the staff to the Manager/Director in a consistent manner to assist in ensuring departmental operations.
  • Participates in personnel recommendations through active involvement in interview process. Engages candidates in purposeful dialogue and uses sound principles in the joint selection of possible employees.
  • Orients staff and provides on the job training on patient care, rehabilitation methods and techniques, and departmental policies and procedures. Ensures the monitoring of quality and training in all patient care areas. Instructs staff in the organization, procedures and protocols of the unit. Responsible for all orientation to equipment, supplies, etc other personnel and their roles and responsibilities as it pertains to OT, and to all appropriate communication procedures with patients, families, other staff members, etc involved with the patients care and treatment. Provides guidance and encouragement around treatment methods and rationale, as well as quality of care and productivity. Instructs all staff to policies and procedures as they pertain to the individualized unit and keeps them updated on Department and Hospital policy changes as they may occur (i.e. infection control, fire and emergency management, etc). Communicates decisions to staff while informing them of the principles used to make those decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:
MS or MA Degree and five (5) years of progressive clinical experience in occupational therapy including three (3) years in supervision or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current New York State license and registration required BLS certification Issued by the American Heart Association AHA OR Heartsaver CPR/AED certification Issued by the American Heart Association AHA is required upon entry to the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
Membership in professional organization. Advanced degree in professional area or health management.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $134,090.00 – $155,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Step 1

Step 2

Schedule Interviews

If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.

Step 3

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
