Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Radiographer-Special Procedure – Radiology – Full Time – Radiology-Special Procedures – Full-Time -.
In this role, the successful candidate Provides health care services, applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for the interpretation by, or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Assists radiologists and vascular surgeons in the performance of diagnostic and interventional vascular procedures, and other related radiologic procedures. The Specials Procedures Technologist will be cross-trained to perform a scrub technologist role to assist physicians during vascular procedures. Responsible for radiology student supervision and evaluation for those students assigned to them. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patent care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. By performing all tasks in an efficient, responsible and caring manner, the employee will be dedicated to meeting the needs of customers and staff. In doing so, will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care with respect to the special needs of each patient age group serviced as well as those persons with disabilities.
Job Responsibilities:
Selecting and operating imaging equipment, and/or associated accessories to successfully perform procedures.
Operates X-Ray Equipment in accordance with State and Federal Codes.
Prepares, sets and implements appropriate technical parameters such as generators, power injectors, monitors, etc.
Assists the licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional radiography procedures.
Performs routine and specialized image post processing.
Determines the need for and selects supplies, accessory equipment, shielding and immobilization devices.
Confirms that equipment performance, maintenance and operation comply with the manufacturers’ specifications.
Applies professional judgment and discretion while performing diagnostic study or treatment.
Performs procedures only when educationally prepared and clinically competent.
Aware of the location of all necessary procedural supplies and methods of inventory control.
Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.
Explains each step of the action plan to the patient, as it occurs to elicit the cooperation of the patient.
Immobilizes patient for examination as necessary.
Uses an integrated team approach
Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
The appropriate application of the ALARA principle and the proper application of the radiation safety standards related to time, distance and shielding.
The appropriate use of gonadal and lead shields
The selection of proper exposure factors.
The supervision of the radiation safety measures applied and practiced by the other team members within the suite.
Monitors fluoroscopy time as required by BMHMC policy.
Maintains controlled access to restricted area during radiation exposure.
Evaluating radiographic images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded.
Patient information and date accurately displayed on all images.
Identifies and removes artifact-producing objects.
Uses professional judgment to adapt imaging and therapeutic procedures to improve diagnostic quality and therapeutic outcomes.
Monitors image production to determine technical acceptability.
Adjusts imaging parameters, patient procedure or computer-generated information to improve the outcome.
Develops a revised action plan if necessary to achieve the intended outcome.
Communicates revised action plan to appropriate team members.
Displays proper procedures for the preparing, labeling and dispensing of radiographic contrast media and the labeling of medications on the sterile field:
Determines the need for and selects the appropriate type of I.V. contrast media based upon the written physician’s order and the written departmental protocols.
Loads the power injector with the appropriate type and amount of I.V. contrast media based upon the Radiologist’s order and/or written departmental protocols.
Documents contrast media usage as required by Departmental procedure.
Properly labels all required medications located on the sterile field as required by written departmental policies
Properly stores and maintains contrast supplies.
Completes and evaluates all required documentation.
Confirms patient identification and verifies the procedure requested or prescribed; checks medical record or prescription for order.
Reviews the patient’s medical record to verify the appropriateness of a specific exam or procedure.
Corroborates patient’s clinical history with procedure.
Reviews request and/or medical record for verification of pregnancy Y/N status, if appropriate and document it.
Participates in Site Verification Procedure.
Reconfirms; patient identification, proper site and/or side of anatomy, informed consent and performs a procedural TIME OUT.
Reviews all diagnostic or therapeutic data for completeness and accuracy.
Documents fluoroscopy time as required by BMHMC policy.
Completes and submits medical supplies usage inventory.
Inputs medical supplies and table-time billing data into SOARIAN®
Provides patient care by
Verifies patient identification; name and date of birth.
Preparing the patient for procedures, including providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
Assuming responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
Determines whether the patient has been properly prepared for the procedure.
Assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications, patient history, insufficient patient preparation or artifacts.
Provides appropriate assistance to the imaging table based upon the patient’s condition.
Adjusts imaging parameters, patient procedure or computer-generated information to improve the outcome.
Evaluates the patient and the procedure to identify variances that may affect the expected outcome.
Evaluates the process and recognizes opportunities for future changes.
Recognizes signs and symptoms of an emergency.
Maintains patient care by:
Maintaining patient dignity and modesty through proper gowning and covering of the patient.
Communicates with the patient in a concerned, professional and age appropriate manner.
Observes universal precautions and transmission-based precautions.
Uses principles of sterile technique.
Provides accurate explanations and instructions at an appropriate time and at a level the patients and their care providers can understand.
Addresses patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure.
Refers questions about diagnosis, treatment or prognosis to a licensed independent practitioner.
Assesses the patient’s condition at regular intervals.
Provides for the patient’s safety and security while in the department.
Determines the course of action for an emergency or problem situation.
Operates functions of HIS/RIS in accordance with Hospital and Department policy
By doing so performs all tracking and other functions that are appropriate to their job
Archives images or data.
Education
Maintains credentials and certifications related to clinical practice.
Acquires 12 ASRT approved continuing education credits annually.
Participates in continuing education and case review to maintain and enhance competency and performance.
Demonstrates understanding of and continued competency in the functions and operations of equipment, accessories, treatment and imaging methods and protocols.
Shares knowledge and expertise with members of the health care team.
Performs Quality Assurance activity based upon established departmental protocol by:
Determines that services are performed in a safe environment, free from any potential hazards.
Performing mechanical and electrical safety checks on all applicable equipment prior to it’s use each day.
Performing safety checks on all non-electrical patient care equipment.
Participates in the institution’s quality assessment and improvement plan.
Maintains and performs quality and control on radiation safety equipment such as aprons, thyroid shields, etc.
Performs and provides evidence of quality assurance activities as required
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Completion of a two year approved ARRT School.
Current New York State licensure to practice Diagnostic Radiography.
Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). (Employees hired prior to January 2001 are excluded from this requirement)
OPTIONAL – In possession of an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) post primary certification as a Vascular Interventional Technologist (VI)
Level of computer skill necessary in order to demonstrate a working proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Windows-based operating systems..
Required Licenses: Radiography – R.T. (R)(ARRT), Radiologic Tech Lic – NYS

Receive Offer

Training & Orientation
