Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Sr. Contract Specialist.
The Senior Contract Specialist is responsible for the timely review and negotiation of contracts supporting the Office of Industrial Liaison/ Technology Transfer (OIL), focusing on matters involving external relationships that contemplate intellectual property.
The position entails, but not limited to liaising with multiple internal and external parties, including industry sponsors, collaborating institutions, the Deans Office, Principal Investigators (PI) and PI Departments, Office of Science and Research, as well corporate partners such as Development, Office of Legal Counsel, Department of Insurance & Enterprise Risk Management, among others. The Senior Contract Specialist works as part of a core team supporting contracting for all campuses of NYU and NYU Langone Health research communities.

Job Responsibilities:
- Draft, review and negotiate research-related contracts, with a focus on industry sponsored matters, including Non-Disclosure Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, Collaborative Research Agreements, Sponsored Research Agreements, Joint Invention Agreements, and Tangible Property Licenses, particularly with respect to compliance with government, sponsor, and institutional policies and within prescribed timelines.
- Advise and assist internal customers by interpreting and explaining contract terms and conditions of research-related contracts.
- Craft persuasive arguments to influence external sponsors and collaborating institutions during negotiations.
- Incorporate and reconcile conflicting advice, propose appropriate and creative solutions, and harmonize processes between multiple departments when necessary.
- Effectively identify and negotiate contract language acceptable to NYULH as a non-profit institution, including but not limited to intellectual property, confidentiality, and publication terms.
- Actively contribute to the development of training programs and standard operating procedures for new and current OIL staff to facilitate the provision of consistent information to the NYU and NYU research community.
- Maintain positive and productive relationships with industry and academic sponsors.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Core Values and incorporates them into the performance of duties.

- Work closely with Business Development to support innovation and research and facilitate the transfer of technology from NYULH and NYU to the market place to benefit the public.
- Identifies and implements useful precedents for the agreement based on patterns established by previously reviewed contracts.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a 3 5 years relevant experience in technology commercialization or intellectual property.
Demonstrated understanding of intellectual property and licensing issues as they pertain to industry sponsored research. Experience within a university research environment is a plus.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and willingness to seek guidance from appropriate parties when necessary.
Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
Comfortable working with a wide variety of personalities as part of a team.
Ability to follow protocols as defined by the unit and institutional policies and procedures.
Ability to project manage and multi task with a high attention to detail.
Advanced knowledge of productivity software and word processing systems.
Highly organized with demonstrated ability to establish and execute priorities.
Flexibility and ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment, negotiating a high-volume and variety of agreements, while creatively maneuvering obstacles and adhering to institutional policies and procedures.
Professional, positive, energetic, and team-oriented
