Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Billing Compliance Coordinator-Labs.
The Billing Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Department of Pathology & Clinical Laboratories’ billing practices. This position will require review of billing practices in the department and ensuring that billing compliance is reviewed, managed and maintained for all laboratory testing. Additionally, this position will require maintenance of Epic billing queues and working with MCIT/Epic and Hospital billing teams to maintain these queues. Additional responsibilities include creating invoices for revenue collection, reviewing invoices for send-out testing to ensure accuracy of charges, and assisting the Assistant Director as needed on other business-related tasks.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Charge Reconciliation/Charge Mapping. Ensure compliance for charge capture and billing, this includes cross-campus issues related to shared specimens. Review and respond to insurance denials due to MUEs edits, remove or edit charges to ensure proper claim submission. Work with Revenue Cycle Operations and Hospital billing in audit reviews and establishing best practices. Communicates with providers, patients, coders, management, or other responsible parties to ensure the correctness and completeness of charges and claims.
2. Competent in Epic HB Billing system, Sunquest and HB Beaker. Monitors new changes to billing rules as dictated by government and third party payers found on payer websites. Understands and quantifies impact of these changes to departmental revenue. Be familiar with the Chargemaster and how to look up information in it.
3. Manages EPIC work queues for Anatomic Pathology and Clinical laboratory systems including resolving Hospital Account Billing Issues and dates of service discrepancies.
4. Create and reconcile invoices for Anatomic Pathology and Clinical laboratory to obtain external and Professional/Affiliation Revenue. Run volume reports in Beaker and Sunquest analyzing charges for send-out testing to obtain reimbursement.
5. Ensure invoices are received by the Accounts Payable Department and paid timely and accurately. Investigate invoice disputes as requested by vendors and Managers. Create purchase orders to pay for contracts and invoices. Run invoice/PO reports in PeopleSoft Business Financials (PBI) to track remaining balances on purchase orders.
6. Approve requisitions in PeopleSoft Financials while being mindful of the budget.
7. Collaborate with Assistant Director and Finance to develop revenue projections based off of invoices and reimbursements from tests. Calculate cost per tests based off of test volume projections and total costs of reagents/consumables/salaries. Interpret insurance reimbursements based off of tests and payer.
8. Work with Assistant Director to seek new business opportunities in an effort to grow revenue and identify cost-cutting initiatives.
9. Support Assistant Director with other tasks such as preparing capital request forms, IOI forms, year-end accrual forms, and Asset Relocation/Discard forms; updating spreadsheets to track capital equipment, paid invoices, revenue collection, and Preventive Maintenance Contracts; preparing Budget modifications and annual budget entry into Hyperion with report preparation.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
