Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Bioinformatics Programmer.
The Bioinformatics Programmer is a critical member of Dr. Gilad Evrony’s lab and will perform both high-level software development and engineering as well as intensive analysis of genomics and other research data. The goal of this work will be to advance our understanding of how the genome mutates, the origins of brain tumors, and the causes of rare genetic diseases. The laboratory has been funded for several major projects on these topics. We seek an individual who is highly proficient in advanced programming, while also understanding bioinformatics and statistics to analyze the resulting data. The individual will also adapt existing software applications, will work collaboratively with other lab members, and will develop biological expertise in genetics.

- Develop robust and efficient software in collaboration with the PI Gilad Evrony for analysis of genomic and other biological datasets.
- Apply and adapt existing software to achieve new biological insights from unique biological datasets.
- Participate in writing related technical reports and/or publications.
- Ensure the integrity and security of data, code, and experiments, including creating robust pipelines for routine quality control and validation of data.
- Work closely with bench scientists to understand and help accomplish their research goals.
- Document all software, code, and experiments.
- Develop and deploy Web-based software applications, and related information search and retrieval systems.
- Participate in special programs and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science/Math/Statistics/Physics/Information Science or related technical discipline. Proven experience in developing and optimizing code for complex problems requiring integration of multiple data sources. Strong programming skills in C/C++, R, Perl/Python. Must be able to work in a demanding and dynamic team environment and work independently. Knowledge of algorithms and data-structures. Experience with Web-based application development languages such as HTML/JavaScript. Experience with windows and Unix/Linux operating systems, including large-scale computing clusters and cloud computing; ability to read and write technical documentation; proficiency in the use of software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing required. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D., M.S., or B.S./B.A. with 4+ years of experience in software engineering in a biological discipline/bioinformatics. Experience with analysis of genomic/genetic data.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $63,935.04 – $83,200.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
