Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Technician.
The Research Technician performs technical laboratory duties and/or basic data analysis in support of a research project. The laboratory analyses at this level may involve sophisticated techniques that are generally learned on the job. This position may also analyze data and produce graphs and charts for publication. This position works on a grant or research project and performs specific analytical laboratory procedures, usually limited in number and repetitive. Work at this level is non-exempt and represents a basic level of scientific contribution involving some theoretical knowledge. In this role, the successful candidate will participate in multi-disciplinary, lab-based and translational projects that develop cell-based immunotherapy approaches for autoimmune diseases, and investigate human autoimmune diseases, including autoimmune uveitis, Behcets disease, and others. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing laboratory experiments, collaborating with lab members on different projects, contributing the organization of the lab and providing support for various aspects of experimental research.
Job Responsibilities:
Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:
Performs basic lab duties under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision.
Performs routine technical tasks and assists in the general maintenance of the lab.
General techniques in biochemistry, molecular biology and cell culture. Participates in standard lab experiments.
Coordinates the repair and preventative maintenance of lab equipment.
Coordinates and conducts the transfer of human samples between the PIs clinical site(s), scientific and commercial collaborators sites and the PIs lab space.
Assists in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments.
Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures. Maintains and updates technical knowledge.
Assists with the ordering and tracking of laboratory supplies. Performs routine technical tasks, and assists in the general maintenance of the lab, such as preparation of stock reagents and maintenance of lab supply inventory.
Keeps meticulous records of the conduct and outcome of laboratory analyses. May enter data into a database. Monitors the work of student assistants.
Demonstrates interest, willingness and persistence to acquire/ perfect expertise in (but not limited to) the following techniques to excellent performance levels without the need for direct supervision:
o Flow cytometry/ cell sorting
o Magnetic cell sorting and other cell isolation/ purification techniques
o Cryopreservation of cells
o Cell culture
o Generation of T cell lines and clones
o Experimentation with human monocyte-derived dendritic cells
o Handling of peptides, overlapping peptide libraries and protein antigens
o Animal handling, care and breeding
o Animal immunization
o Adoptive cell transfer experiments, including from human to mice
o Fundoscopy in mice
o Other basic immunologic techniques such as ELISA, ELISPOT, CBA
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Advanced (beyond basic lab training will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator). Effective oral and written communication skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in flow cytometry.
Experience with cell culture.
Experience with animal care and handling, including breeding and human cell engraftment into immunocompromised animals.
Experience with autoimmune uveitis animal models, including fundoscopy in mice.
Statistical programming in R.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $50,000.00 – $50,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
