Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Instrument Coordinator, Kimmel Sterile Processing.
In this role, the successful candidate The Instrument Coordinator is responsible for completion and accuracy of new instrument sets, assessment and evaluation of instrument tray packaging and weight, acquisition and replacement of new instruments and damaged or missing instruments. The Instrument Coordinator will communicate daily with the charge resource nurses in each OR department. This person will meet daily with the Central Sterile Processing Department Management and Lead Technicians to assure concise communication. Assists with preparation of case cart build and coordination of instrument delivery to the Operating Rooms. Prepares instrument refurbishing schedules, maintains an organized work area, and accounts for instrumentation released and received for refurbishing. Controls and minimizes the individual peel-pouched items in the instrument storage area, using these instruments in sets when needed, and supply overstocked instrumentation to SPD. The Instrument Coordinator must be able to resolve problems related to instruments, implants, drills, and all power equipment. The Coordinator analyzes instrument usage through various tracking reports, identifies need for modification of usage/tray-builds and adjustments to preference cards. Has authority to influence decision makers on modifications to preference cards or inventory orders.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform other departmental duties as (needed)
- Coordination of instrumentation needed for the following day with the OR schedule. This includes capturing all of the booked and add-on procedures.
- Responsible for ordering replacement instrumentation and refurbishing of damaged or missing instrumentation. Makes recommendations to management of modification needs of future instrument orders based on analysis of past tray builds and usages.
- Independently determines appropriate container size for instrument containers, assess needs for custom made instrument carriers, weigh and assemble instrument sets according to AAMI standards.
- Assist OR team leaders with open instrumentation projects, building instrument trays if needed for coverage, documenting manufacturer recommendations, and getting new trays into circulation. Identifies and suggest cost- saving approaches to storage and purchasing of inventory.
- Act as liaison between Surgical Services and the Sterile Processing Department, communicating clear messages between Surgical Services and SPD to prioritize needs and complete instrumentation projects.
- Attends/conducts instrument tray optimization/reduction meetings
- Maintains a well-organized instrument storage area, controlling and minimizing peel-pouched instrumentation.
- Maintains database of instruments ordered for services provided
- Provides alternatives to instrumentation from different manufacturers
- Works with vendors to obtain quotes for custom instruments and education
- Creates, updates, and makes recommendations for updates to count sheets based on user needs
- Maintain inventory/supplies for instruments
- Assists leadership team with oversight of front line staff as needed
- Perform QA audits on instrument trays (as needed)
- Regularly audits case carts for completion (if applicable)
- Orders other department supplies (as needed)
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a To qualify you must either:
Have a Bachelors degree and one year Central Sterile Processing (CSP) experience. Must be Certified Registered Central Service Technician though Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or CBSPD.
OR
2 years of experience (at least one of those years must be Central Sterile Processing experience), be Certified Registered Central Service Technician though Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or CBSPD, and have at least 1 of any of the following certifications:
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS)
Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER)
Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL)
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
Lean Six Sigma Black Bet
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via
National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assistant
National Commission of Certification for the Certification of Surgical Assistants
American Board of Surgical Assistants.
Required Licenses: Central Sterile tech (HSPA)
Preferred Qualifications:
3 years experience with surgical instruments. Knowledge of instrument tracking software such as SPM. Customer service experience.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $62,400.00 – $70,720.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Receive Offer
If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.
Step 4
Training & Orientation
You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
