Position Summary:
We are seeking a Spanish-English bilingual Research Data Associate to collect data and support Dr. Ortiz’s intergenerational health equity research projects in the Department of Pediatrics at NYU Langone Health / NYU Grossman School of Medicine, and NYU Langone Brooklyn. The Research Data Associate will work with Medical Center staff and departments, including Directors, Managers, Research Staff, and interfaces with patients and their families.
Job Responsibilities:
Enrollment duties – The RDA will recruit research participants and obtain informed consent. The RDA will track participants, call eligible participants, and preform e-consent. The RDA will follow up with enrolled subjects to perform several assessments and measures on the telephone and in-person. The RDA may need to travel off site on occasion to visit clients to collect data if they are immobile and/or have limited access to technology. The RDA will work closely with the Community Health Worker to link clients of GLWD and/or patients of NYU with medical and social services, as needed, and follow-up on their cases.
Assessment duties – The RDA will follow all study subjects and perform all assessments at study time points. They will arrange assessments when it is most convenient for the participant, including nights and weekends if needed, by phone and in-person; therefore, flexible working hours are required. The RDA will perform anthropometric measurements including height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, and fruit/vegetable intake on participants (adults and children). The RDA will collect saliva, hair, and blood spot samples. They will work closely with collaborators in the outpatient Clinic. In addition, the RDA will lead one-on-one qualitative interviews with participants in English and/or Spanish.
Data duties – The RDA will create projects and instruments on RedCap with training provided as needed and will enter all assessment data into RedCap, and Excel. The RDA will assist with data cleaning and data management. They will implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling and analysis with attention to all technical aspects. RDAs will assist the PIs to code, analyze and interpret data, and write scholarly reports. Analyses and report generation may require use of statistical programming such as STATA or SPSS, as well as qualitative analysis programming such as ATLAS.ti or Dedoose, so though experience is preferred (and not required), training will be provided by Dr. Ortiz and the study team as relevant and needed.
Medical chart review duties – The RDA will complete medical chart review at study time points in order to collect vital signs, weight, and any applicable medical information. This includes using the medical record systems at Bellevue, NYU Langone Health, and NYU Langone Brooklyn, and requesting medical charts from other institutions where families may have transferred. The RDA will enter all medical chart review data into Redcap.
IRB duties – The RDA will assist the Project Coordinator with the preparation of Institutional Review Board (IRB) materials including the original protocol, amendments, updates, and renewals, as well as keeping track of all study team member requirements. The RDA will assist with the up keeping of the Study Regulations binder.
Program duties – The RDA may be responsible to translate project-related documents. The RDA will coordinate participant and walk participants through in-person visits and at-home specimen collections. The RDA will also work with children in person. Children’s activities may include playing or reading. Additional program duties are to assist the Program Coordinator and Manager with grant administration, program reports, and presentations.
General office duties – The RDA will assist the Project Coordinator with day-to-day project activities including maintaining inventory and purchasing supplies.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a BA or BS in Science, Public Health, Nutrition, Child Development or related field or Associate degree plus one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Fluency in Spanish (both written and spoken) is a requirement. Facility with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently. Ability to work and make decisions independently. Time management skills and ability to multitask. Flexible working hours and location (remote, in-person, off-site at community partner’s location or client/patient homes, on occasion). Comfortable working with people and in sensitive situations. Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in a health care settings and/or research level interviews is preferred. Experience or interest in using SPSS, Stata, and/or R for data analysis. Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force. Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sitting most of the time.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $51,243.96 – $51,243.96 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
