Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Information Desk Clerk.
In this role, the successful candidate serves as initial contact person for visitors, patients, their family members and representatives, and other visitors coming to NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital or calling on telephone at main desk.
Job Responsibilities:
- Greet Patients using excellent customer service skills using appropriate verbal written techniques when obtaining or conveying information to patients, physicians, nurses, or ancillary staff. Directs patients, visitors, and telephone calls appropriately while comforting the inquiring parties. Addresses all inquiries in a pleasant and courteous manner promptly identifying the department when answering the telephone.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Attendance and Additional Performance Standards: Demonstrates reliability by maintaining a good attendance/punctuality record. Adheres to departmental guidelines regarding use of and proper notification in connection with time off. Number of incidents of Unscheduled Absence: Number of incidents of Lateness: Adheres to Employee Health requirements for an annual health assessment including TB screening and proof of all required immunizations. Maintains a professional appearance; wears identification badge at all times while at NYULOH.
- Triages telephone calls from patients and visitors that are truly of an emergency nature. Will assign a level of priority to calls and direct them to the necessary department. Will ask certain questions in order to accommodate the callers needs efficiently.
- Answers telephone calls to main LOH telephone number triaging emergencies and transferring calls to appropriate parties. Will efficiently direct a high volume of incoming calls to the appropriate parties. Will provide phone numbers and addresses of importance in a professional manner.
- Inputs visitor and patient information into patient information system before issuing passes. Will verify the visitors destination and their identity and will generate a pass. Will maintain a detailed log of issues that occur with the Visitor Management System.
- Arrange assistance for those patients who require transport assistance. Will assist patient by issuing a wheelchair for transport. Will assist patient with the appropriate staff in case of emergency.
- Assist in timely patient appointments by providing directions to appointment location. Will accurately direct patient to clinics by having a knowledgeable layout of all clinical areas. Will provide patients with off site clinic addresses, suites, and telephone numbers.
- Log each patient or visitor arrival in information tracking system. Retrieves patient information in order to generate a Visitor Pass.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent. Computer experience. Telephone experience and good telephone etiquette. Ability to communicate with patients, visitors, staff, and community members both in person and on telephone.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $24.81 – $27.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Step 1

The NYU Langone hiring process begins with you applying through our online portal. Be sure to update and upload your resume. Shortly after you submit your application, you will receive an email confirmation. Ten days after applying you will receive a talent assessment to be completed.
Step 2
Schedule Interviews
If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.
Step 3
Receive Offer
If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.
Step 4
Training & Orientation
You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
