Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director, Advanced Practice Providers – Perlmutter Cancer Center – Manhattan.
In this role, the successful candidate Reporting to the Chief Clinical Officer Perlmutter Cancer Center with secondary reporting to the System Senior Nursing Director Outpatient Oncology and the Senior Director of Advance Practice Providers exercises leadership and managerial functions of setting objectives planning staffing budgeting and directing the activities of the advance practice providers APP advanced practice nurses physician assistants radiologist assistants and specialist assistants employed by NYULH and the NYU School of Medicine Faculty Group Practices supporting the services of the Perlmutter Cancer Center; oversees credentialing and reappointment to assure full regulatory compliance; collaborates with care management and other disciplines to develop and support goals for optimal patient care coordination and clinical assessment; identifies implements and delivers clinical process improvement pertinent to these functions such as reduction in length of stay and other resource utilization initiatives; supports and facilitates the development and implementation of interdisciplinary and nursing standards evidence based practice and nursing research; fosters collaborative relationships among disciplines and medical staff leadership; participates in departmental interdepartmental and medical board committees and other functions as requested; collaborates with and advises the leadership of care management of actual and potential opportunities for improvement associated with mutually beneficial programs
Job Responsibilities:
- Participates in the evaluation and reporting of APP and interdisciplinary outcomes.
- Provides leadership and resources to design, implement and evaluate effective and efficient advanced practice nursing, physician assistant, radiologist assistants, and specialist assistants programs.
- Assures the design and daily implementation of comprehensive, efficient and flexible APP coverage models for Cancer Center services.
- Guides development and evaluation of existing and new programs in collaboration with specialty service leadership groups.
- Develops delineation of privileges and corresponding competency requirements based on knowledge and input from the practitioner regarding clinical scope of practice.
- Establishes principles of clinical care to support the clinical functions of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, radiologist assistants, specialist assistants and ensures that processes support ongoing competencies and appropriate utilization of these levels of staff.
- Demonstrates and enhances others’ understanding of nursing and patient care standards as integral and supportive of professional practice, participatory management, and values espoused by the Departments of Nursing, Office of Medical Affairs, and the medical center.
- Demonstrates understanding of the value of professional nursing, the conceptual framework in which it is practiced, and the features of an organization that attracts and retains advanced practice nurses.
- Articulates principles of clinical care management and clinical process improvement in terms understandable to entry through expert level of providers. Utilizes evidence-based approaches to develop, maintain and evaluate care management systems that support the delivery of safe, effective and efficient patient care.
- Facilitates implementation of established standards and consistency in management of nurse practitioners, physician assistants, radiologist assistants and specialist assistants as allied health professionals.
- Demonstrates knowledge and assists nurse practitioners, physician assistants, radiologist assistants and specialist assistants to utilize standards that enhance quality and ensures safety of care.
- Provides resources and collaborates to design and implement processes that facilitate age appropriate, culturally sensitive and ethical care for patients.
- Establishes an organized system of credentialing and privileging new and established allied health professionals. Makes recommendations to physician and nurse leaders, and to Medical Staff Services for more efficient systems of identifying need for NPs, RAs, SAs and PAs, recruitment, orientation and evaluation. Engages leaders of clinical departments in evaluating and planning for increase and/or reduction in force of NPs, RAs, SAs and PAs to meet the changing needs of various services.
- Participates in establishing the advanced practice nursing/physician assistant/specialist assistant/radiologist assistant financial plan; monitors and evaluates outcomes, makes modifications as indicated; evaluates recruitment and retention needs in addition to turnover and vacancy rates.
- Initiates and sustains policies for the functions of the advance practice nursing, radiologist assistant, physician assistant and specialist assistant programs.
- Establishes leadership accountability while providing support and guidance for role advancement and professional development.
- Serves as a consultant to the leadership and supports activities of Cancer Center programs based on the philosophy and mission of NYU Langone Health, Departments of Nursing, and the Office of Medical Affairs.
- Provides consultation and support to the Manager of APNs and PAs in hiring, developing and evaluating APNs, RAs, SAs and PAs from orientation through termination according to established standards.
- Chairs and participates in Cancer Center and Hospital committees and projects as warranted.
- Role models Core Values in actions and communications with patients, families, and staff and other disciplines. Functions as a respectful leader of the health care team.
- Develops and implements orientation programs, quality improvement initiatives, peer review and performance appraisal systems pertinent to
- nurse practitioners, physician assistants, radiologist assistants and specialist assistants.
- Provides opportunities for nursing and other interdisciplinary staff and leadership to participate in activities and educational programs related to care management. Maintains clinical and leadership competency by participation in continuing education, professional organizations and other related activities.
- Facilitates an environment of learning that supports patient safety, and all levels of nursing practice and personnel.
- Evaluates own performance based on professional practice standards, and criteria established by accrediting/regulatory agencies. Works collaboratively with clinical and educational resources and experts to plan and implement educational offerings for staff and leadership.
- Coordinates and facilitates interdisciplinary patient and family educational programs, in conjunction with the Patient/Family Education Council, and activities using a variety of media to promote quality patient care.
- Obtains and utilizes data from a variety of sources including internal and external benchmarking data, research findings and outcomes data to enhance programs supporting patient care, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, radiologist assistant and specialist assistant services and improve patient outcomes.
- Collaborates with analytical resources to design and implements, reports and dashboards to assess and improve operational effectiveness and clinical quality.
- Makes recommendations for quality and performance improvement programs for advanced practice nursing, physician assistant, radiologist assistant and specialist assistant programs.
- Recommends program changes based on current literature, research, and evidence based practice findings.
- Implements and evaluates activities to monitor and ensure compliance with nurse practitioner and physician assistant regulatory requirements.
- Participates in and fosters staff involvement in evidence-based practice and other research activities.
- Stimulates and initiates clinical studies and research projects pertinent to specific patient populations served and participates in interdisciplinary research programs.
- Supports clinical trials research activities of the Cancer Center.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Current registration as Professional Registered Nurse in NY State; Current registration as Nurse Practitioner in NY State Master s Degree in nursing ANCC or AANP certification as Nurse Practitioner or Current New York State Physician Assistant License Education: Physician Assistant Bachelor s Degree BAPA Certifications: NCCPA Board Certification required Bachelor s in Nursing; Master s in Nursing Administration or related field required Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience with a majority of that experience in the care of patients with cancer; minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a position of comparable scope including clinical case management project management and evaluation quality and performance Improvement methodologies and patient education; interdisciplinary leadership experience in team work essential Proficient in data management analysis presentation and computerized information systems essential Excellent verbal communication interpersonal and team building skills; self directed creative risk taker understanding of change management professional practice and current issues and trends in nursing including the Forces of Magnetism service line delivery and health care in general.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $131,799.53 – $219,665.88 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. Schedule Interviews
If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.

Receive Offer
If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.
Step 4
Training & Orientation
You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
