Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director of Occupational Health Services (Nurse Practitioner) in Manhattan.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for the day- to- day operation of Occupational Health Services at the NYU Langone Manhattan and Brooklyn campuses under the direction of the Senior Director for OHS. Program development. Regulatory compliance. Participation in health system- wide committees related to employee health and welfare. Coordinates and performs diagnostic, therapeutic and patient care activities as required, according to practice protocols.
Job Responsibilities:
- Management of staff. Ensures assignments are understood and follows up with employees to ensure that planned outcomes are reached. Clearly defines employees responsibilities and standards of performance. Counsels employees when their performance requires improvement. Encourages staff to keep current on professional information. Completes all performance evaluations in a timely manner.
- Maintenance and update of OHS policies and procedures. In conjunction with the Senior Director and Medical Director for Occupational Health, develops and approves changes required to comply with new or changed departmental and/or Medical Center policies and procedures. Communicates and distributes all policy or procedural changes to staff and other Medical Center personnel. Ensures adherence to departmental and interdepartmental policies and procedures. Participates in establishment of departmental goals, and evaluates performance of department with respect to these goals.
- Program development. Researches viability of potential programs; investigates similar programs within the Medical Center and at outside institutions; reviews positive and negative aspects. Addresses all contingencies in a plan. Conducts/participates in special projects and task forces that require OHS leadership and or representation. Maintains a current awareness of programmatic trends within the field.
- Regulatory compliance with city, state and federal occupational health policies. Ensures departmental compliance with applicable stands of JCAHO, NYS Department of Health, OSHA and other applicable federal, state and local regulations. Identifies quality assurance issues and develops programs/performance plan to meet appropriate standards. Prepares EHS standards and performance of staff to ensure compliance with regulatory inspections: NYS DOH, Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, NYC DOH and rules and regulations of medical staff.
- Cost containment and budget. Acknowledges the importance of cost effectiveness for services rendered. Evaluates practices and identifies areas of excessive materials &/or costs. Arranges work to reduce or avoid overtime. Uses supplies efficiently. Invites recommendations from staff for enhancement of cost containment measures.
- Information technology. Supports Senior Director in clinical information system development, deployment and optimization, including coordination of ongoing reviews and enhancements to OHS documentation workflows and reporting in the electronic health record. Serves as a liaison to MCIT leadership and health system operations leadership to facilitate and maximize use of electronic health record systems for OHS.
- Serves as primary liaison for OHS with 1. external medical providers performing fitness for duty evaluations and 2. occupational medicine, infectious disease, allergy and other medical specialists advising OHS on policy and/or providing care relating to workplace exposure or injury. In addition, this individual will serve a medical review officer for routine drug screening and/or serve as the OHS liaison for external medical review officers for for cause drug and alcohol testing.
- Occupational injury, illness and exposure surveillance and treatment. Elicits a detailed medical history from employee and performs appropriate physical exam. Keeps accurate records. Establishes medical diagnosis, orders and evaluates diagnostic studies; performs and monitors therapeutic procedures; assesses &/or manages follow up plans. Prescribes and regulates medications &/or related therapies. Referrals to specialists as needed. Coordinates care with the Workers Comp. Representative, Human Resources and other departments as needed.
- Medical evaluations and patient care activities. Elicits a detailed medical history and performs physical exam appropriate to job function of employee. Establishes medical diagnosis, orders and evaluates diagnostic studies. Records and documents health appraisal data necessary to maintain.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have:
- Licensed Independent Nurse Practitioner with 3 5 years of related clinical experience. Management experience. Extensive knowledge of local, state and federal regulations related to occupational health and safety..
Required Licenses: BLS – Pending Card, Nurse Practitioner-NYS

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $146,384.39 – $243,974.35 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Receive Offer
If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Training & Orientation
You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
