Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a per diem Associate Chaplain. 

In this role, the successful candidate will provide on-call spiritual care to patients and families at NYU Langone Health Manhattan Campus using an inter-faith model of care and working within the patient’s belief and value system.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide evening/overnight on-call coverage 4pm – 9am for urgent spiritual care requests for a minimum of 6 shifts per month. Cover weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. Must be able to arrive on site within 1.5 hours of being called
  • Triage patient/family needs, develop plan of care and provide spiritual support to patients and families
  • Facilitate access to additional spiritual/religious support if needed, including specific sacramental or ritual needs.
  • Collaborate and communicate with staff chaplains and members of the interdisciplinary health care team
  • Advise manager of important patient/clinical issues as they arise.
  • Document all chaplaincy activities in electronic medical records system in a timely manner according to departmental policy
  • Participate in the department plan for continuous quality improvement
  • Function in such a manner that reflects the mission, vision and policies of NYU Langone Health and the Department of Spiritual Care, and the Code of Ethics of the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC)

    Qualifications:

  • Strong spiritual assessment and counseling skills, specifically related to medical crises and grief Ability to minister to persons of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, spiritual/faith traditions, and sexual and gender identities/expressions
  • Ability to work as part of an inter-faith spiritual care team
  • Bachelor of Arts degree required, plus studies in theology or pastoral counseling or equivalent work experience
  • In process for ordination or commissioning by recognized religious group
  • Successful completion of at least two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), or one unit of CPE and equivalent professional experience
  • Computer and technological literacy: use of mobile phone apps, paging and computer systems including but not limited to electronic mail, time and attendance software, electronic medical records documentation and learning management software
  • Fluency in English comprehension, oral and written communications required

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have the level of knowledge acquired through the completion of a Bachelor of Arts Degree and participation in religious or pastoral counseling studies, from an accredited school of theology, or equivalent work experience. In process for ordination or commissioning by recognized religious group.
Also, successful completion of at least two units of Clinical Pastoral Education recognized by the US Department of Education

Preferred Qualifications:
Successful completion of 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education recognized by the US Department of Education

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $32.37 – $35.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

    Step 1

    Apply Online

    The NYU Langone hiring process begins with you applying through our online portal. Be sure to update and upload your resume. Shortly after you submit your application, you will receive an email confirmation. Ten days after applying you will receive a talent assessment to be completed.

    Step 2

    Schedule Interviews

    If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.

    Step 3

    Receive Offer

    If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

    Step 4

    Training & Orientation

    You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
