Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Director-Department Operations.

The Assistant Director, Clinical Operations will provide administrative leadership and direction for the strategic and daily operations of the clinical mission across the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency. Sites include the Ronald O. Perelman Center for Emergency Services at NYU Langone- Tisch Hospital, the Emergency Department Observation Unit, the NYU Langone Health- Brooklyn Emergency Department, The Home Depot Emergency Department at Cobble Hill, our Virtual Urgent Care Service and Samuels Orthopedic Immediate Care Center encompassing over 500,000 patient visits annually. This position will report directly to the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations and Department Administrator.

Job Responsibilities:

Strategic Oversight

1. In collaboration with Vice Chair and departmental leadership, formulate strategic plan and execution for clinical operations mission

  • Development and tracking of goals and metrics from departmental level to individual level
    1. Lead annual goal setting for clinical operations leadership team including alignment across sites and provider groups
    2. Lead annual clinical expectations and biannual review process for frontline faculty
  • Create and support new programs from idea conception to implementation
    1. Creation of new service offerings and growth of programs
    2. Evaluation and requests for new resources
    3. Preparation of verbal or written reports periodically on status 
    4. Facilitating approval by legal, regulatory, and other stakeholders

 

Operational Oversight

  1. Serve as administrative leader/partner for Vice Chairs, Clinical Chiefs, and APP Managers
  2. Provide leadership and support for multidisciplinary clinical initiatives and operational enhancements across the department including, but not limited to patient experience, quality and patient safety, throughput, and preventative care
  3. Lead data analytics in collaboration with Director of Informatics to ensure prioritization and implementation of dashboards and analysis to support clinical operations and publication
  4. Support faculty within the clinical mission to meet goals and ensure operational excellence
  5. Lead and support creation of faculty schedule each block for adult, pediatric, and observation schedules
    1. Develop supply and demand staffing models on an annual and block basis for both faculty and PAs to ensure core shifts covered
    2. Approve fixed schedules and other requests in conjunction with schedule leadership team
    3. Develop processes for intake of requests, vacation rankings, and other logistics
    4. Develop staffing model to minimize moonlighting and allow for flexibility with changing volumes
  6. As a member of the department administrative leadership team, develop and support interfaces across mission areas within the department of Emergency Medicine

 

Faculty and Staff Management

  1. Create a positive environment that fosters collaboration, wellness, dedication and teamwork within the clinical faculty and staff
  2. Directly supervise, recruit, and develop staff within the clinical mission including, but not limited to, managers, schedulers, and data analysts 
  3. In collaboration with departmental leadership, implement annual faculty recruitment plan
  4. Oversee credentialing of new providers to ensure timely submission of required documents by planned start dates across medical staff privileges, HR requirements, health clearance, and insurance credentialing, to allow for on time start date
  5. Oversee onboarding and logistical needs for new providers
  6. Manage all provider leaves of absence and engage Human Resources as needed
  7. Manage and/or participate in performance issues in conjunction with Vice Chair of Operations, Department Administrator, and Human Resources
  8. Oversee faculty offboarding process

 

Financial Operations

  1. Ongoing monitoring of clinical P&Ls 
  2. In collaboration with the Assistant Director, Finance and Administration and Department Administrator, support annual budget preparation
  3. In collaboration with the FGP billing team and other stakeholders, implement revenue enhancement opportunities related to professional billing
  4. Develop and implement multiple value based initiatives at each clinical site leading to improvements in outcomes/decrease in costs
  5. Develop and maintain billing reports including chart completion, critical care, downstream revenue
  6. Complete adhoc analysis related to staffing, moonlighting spend, and other requests

 

  1. Telehealth Division: Lead daily operations for NYU Langone Virtual Urgent Care and ED-based telemedicine initiatives in collaboration with Chief of Telehealth
  2. Manage VUC staffing to patient demand to meet target utilization and patient access including during seasonal surges 
  3. Management of VUC per diem faculty and engagement
  4. Monitoring VUC patient satisfaction and completion of service recovery and subsequent improvements to the service
  5. MCIT enhancements for patient and/or provider satisfaction on VUC
  6. Marketing and growth of VUC to increase volumes as appropriate
  7. Partnerships with Patient Access Center and ED Follow Up Center to support prior to and after visit VUC needs
  8. Launch, support, and monitor ED-based telemedicine initiatives

 

Health Promotion Division: Lead Health Promotion initiatives to improve the emergency care delivery system and communities served in collaboration with Vice Chairs

  1. Oversee the Division staff team and volunteer programs
  2. Partner with site dyads and institutional collaborators on preventative care, health promotion, and injury prevention initiatives across sites as appropriate
  3. Engage partners in Government Affairs and community organization to partner and/or highlight events such as community board presentations, health fairs, and volunteer events 
  4. Partner with faculty and the Research Division to submit grant applications and manage awards
  5. Track short term and longitudinal outcomes for reporting and publication
  6. Produce regular departmental communications, such as newsletters, to highlight key

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have  Healthcare administration experience, clinical operations experience, management experience

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $117,107.95 – $178,500.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Step 1

Step 2

Schedule Interviews

If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.

Step 3

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
