Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Assistant.
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for assisting lab staff with the day to day operation of the laboratory by providing clinical clerical and inventory management support Including but not limited to specimen management/processing ordering and receipt of inventory instrument maintenance and communicating with providers and other laboratories
Job Responsibilities:
- Maintains an adequate supply of all general laboratory items as well as department specific reagents and materials needed for specimen analysis Communicates the need for additional supplies to supervisor/manager when necessary
- Ensures the proper receipt and storage of laboratory materials nbsp; nbsp;Receives all goods delivered and documents according to NYU policy and guidelines provided by regulatory agencies
- Understands specimen requirements communicates to provider and documents when samples are cancelled or rejected nbsp; nbsp;
- Assures specimen quality prior to processing
- Calls provider to confirm or clarify requests modifies and places orders as required
- Responsible for front end processing of all samples preparing them for analysis nbsp; nbsp;Examples include but are not limited to labeling centrifuging aliquotting transport and placing samples on automated test platforms nbsp; nbsp;
- Responsible for back end processing of samples including preparation for storage tracking and eventual disposal according to policy nbsp;
- Properly disposes of all department regulated medical biological chemical and clean waste nbsp;
- Cleans all laboratory work surfaces and assigned equipment in accordance with laboratory protocols and documents as required nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;
- Responsible for maintaining logs associated with temperature and humidity for assigned equipment work areas and eye wash stations nbsp;
- Completes add on requests as per policy including retrieval of addon specimens from within and outside the department
- Responsible for review of routine and stat pending lists and retrieval of missed tests/specimens nbsp;
- Answering the phone and nbsp; nbsp;providing assistance to caller as required nbsp; nbsp; spec requirements test availability TAT etc
- Access automated test platforms to assess status of test samples
- Responsible for shipping of blood and body fluids to other sites
- Assist in blood product modification irradiation thawing of frozen products
- Responsible for inventory management of blood products receiving stocking expiration
- Collect blood by venipuncture or finger puncture on patients as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a As of 3/1/2023 High school graduate with 12 college credits in Chemistry or Biology All hired before this time would be considered grandfathered and would not need 12 college credits Laboratory experience But not including Intake/Accessioning including handling open containers of blood and body fluid Knowledge of computer applications especially excel and word Excellent communication skills

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $29.57 – $32.99 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Step 1
Apply Online
The NYU Langone hiring process begins with you applying through our online portal. Be sure to update and upload your resume. Shortly after you submit your application, you will receive an email confirmation. Ten days after applying you will receive a talent assessment to be completed.
Step 2
Schedule Interviews
If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.
Step 3
Receive Offer
If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.
Step 4
Training & Orientation
You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
