NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clerical Reception/Insurance – Non-Invasive Cardiology – Part Time Days – Non-Invasive Cardiology -.

In this role, the successful candidate General Summary: Under general supervision and according to established policies, procedures, and parameters, are
responsible for the scheduling of Cardiac Rehab. The employee represents the department and hospital in a
professional, courteous manner to perform general receptionist and clerical duties according to established policies and
procedures. Employee will utilize discretion and judgment when screening patients, visitors and telephone calls,
organizing own workload to meet established priorities

Job Responsibilities:

Requires analytical and reasoning skills necessary to schedule Cardiac Diagnostic testing. Requires basic analytical and reasoning skills necessary to comprehend medical terminology and basic sentence structure to organize work so that charging, statistical, and other related work assignments are completed timely. Requires basic interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with patients, supervisor, and other hospital personnel when scheduling appointments, receiving and completing work assignments, and delivering transcribed reports. Must have the ability to walk, move and stand for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 0 to 25 pounds. Reading, listening and comprehension skills sufficient to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Knowledge of medical terminology generally acquired through 1-2 years of on the job experience

Requires approximately 1-2 years on-the-job experience in order to learn to operate windows computer processing, photocopying machine and other common office equipment; become familiar with department policies and procedures; and gain understanding of a wide range of medical terminology and ability to schedule Cardiac Rehab patients

Reception: Performance Expectations: Communicate messages concisely via email and routed to the appropriate staff. Phones are answered and general inquiries responded to professionally and courteously according to Department protocol. Telephone etiquette providing introduction of self and identifying caller information. A Request for Records is properly completed for all patient test results Checks Covid tests status according to established criteria Ensures completion of examination in Syngo Workflow Provides research for insurance verification for each OP test at least three workdays prior to appointment. Attains pre-certification numbers or referrals from primary care physicians or insurance companies when needed.

Insurance Services: Performance Expectations: Researches insurance for each OP test at least three workdays prior to appointment. Attains precertification numbers or referrals from primary care physicians or insurance companies when needed. Every patient has a well-documented history of all conversations concerning insurance certification. Resolves issues or directs them to appropriate Manager by shift end of day before appointment.

Schedule: Performance Expectations: Has the ability to recognize those tests which may have been ordered erroneously and resolves the discrepancy or brings them to the attention of management. Clearly communicates test preparations to staff and patients. Schedule includes all pertinent patient information Test changes are communicated to staff Ensures OP schedule includes all prescriptions orders, EKGs, and other material scanned in EMR.  Outpatients are given instructions to prepare them for rehab visit. Voice mail is picked up immediately at the start of shift. Cancellations are maintained in a manner which facilitates prompt retrieval.

HIPPA: Performance Expectations: Demonstrates an understanding of the medical/legal implications and responsibilities related to patient records to protect the patient and the institution. Understands and complies with policies and procedures related to medical/legal matters, including confidentiality amendment of medical records, release of information, patient’ rights, medical records as legal evidence, informed consent, etc. Meets standards of professional and ethical conduct. Recognizes and reports any information deemed inappropriate to immediate supervisor.

Transition includes introductions to the patient, complete information and understanding of patient status, completed forms, physical assessment if applicable.Informs patient of next steps and thanks them for allowing us to care for them today and asks if there is anything else needed before leaving the patient. Teamwork Working together to benefit the patient experience; communicate, collaborate, take ownership and treat all in accordance with the hospital’s core valuesSupports and complies with all hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Attends all mandatory in-services, continuing education, annual health requirements, etc. Identifies, corrects, or reports safety hazards and incidents immediately. Applies safety-related policies and procedures pertaining to the department or work area. Performs according to the Hospital’s Disaster and Fire Manuals’ instructions when necessary. Lifts and moves objects and/or patients safely. Follows the Hazardous Materials Management Program guidelines and uses protective apparel and equipmindicated

Minimum Qualifications:

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
