The Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology, in the Department of Medicine, is seeking a Hospital Epidemiologist at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level.

The position is based at NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue, the flagship public municipal hospital of New York City and a major teaching affiliate of the NYU School of Medicine.

As Director, Infection Prevention and Control, your responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide leadership on the establishment and implementation of the infection control program;
  • Chair the Surveillance Team and provide direction and guidance in the activities of the team;
  • Chair the Infection Control Committee;
  • Maintain liaison with the Bellevue Microbiology Laboratory, the New York City Department of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, the Health and Hospitals Corporation, and the infectious diseases consultants in Medicine and Pediatrics;
  • Provide leadership for the planning and direction of surveillance activities;
  • Coordinate the data analysis obtained from surveillance activities and prepare the results for distribution to the appropriate committees, authorities, and staff;
  • Provide leadership, on behalf of the Infection Control Committee, to the Infection Preventionists who conduct epidemiologic investigation of clusters, out breaks or potential outbreaks of infection, and make recommendations for prevention and control measures;
  • Provide leadership to the Infection Preventionists who conduct investigations into problem areas as requested by hospital administration or medical staff on behalf of the Infection Control Committee;
  • Provide direction to the Infection Preventionists who advise staff members and clinical departments in the prevention and control of infection in their areas;
  • Review plans for new construction and renovation and advise on matters of infection control;
  • Participate in the development, review, and revision of Infection Control policies of the hospital, specific clinical departments, and hospital support services;
  • Participate in educational programs for medical staff and other employees in matters of infection control;
  • Participate directly, or through other members of the Surveillance Team, in activities or committees related to Product Evaluation, Performance Improvement and Risk Management; and  
  • Participate in leadership roles and responsibilities (e.g. JACHO visits, Medical Board) for the Bellevue Hospital Center as requested by the Chief Medical Officer of Bellevue Hospital Center.

Board Certified in Infectious Diseases

 

Minimum 5 – 10 years of experience of progressive infection control, infectious disease or epidemiology experience in clinical practice.

Minimum 5 – 10 years supervisory, teaching and/or administrative experience, required.

Excellent Communication skills

Supervisory experience in infection prevention and control.

Step 1

Apply Online

The NYU Langone hiring process begins with you applying through our online portal. Be sure to update and upload your resume. Shortly after you submit your application, you will receive an email confirmation. Ten days after applying you will receive a talent assessment to be completed.

Step 2

Schedule Interviews

If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.

Step 3

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
