Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director – Health Professions Simulation. The Director of Health Professions Simulation, reporting directly to the Assistant Dean of Simulation Education, provides guidance in health professions simulation at the New York Simulation Center for the Health Sciences (NYSIM). NYSIM is a partnership between the City University of New York (CUNY) & the NYU Grossman School of Medicine (NYUGSOM).

Job Responsibilities:

Steering Committee & Key Constituent Relations – Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Simulation Education and guided by the members of the New York Simulation Center Steering Committee, develop strategic key relationships to grow simulation education for both the City University of New York & the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Serve as the liaison from NYSIM to principles from CUNY in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Simulation Education. Promote the visibility, reputation, and interests of NYSIM within CUNY and NYUGSOM, as well as external organizations via events, publications, and other network activities. The Director partners with NYSIM leadership to ensure CUNY and NYUGSOM strategic goals for simulation education are articulated and met each year. 

 

Program Development – Work with the Assistant Dean of Simulation Education and other NYSIM leadership to oversee the development and implementation of all simulation program initiatives and implement strategies to expand and enhance NYSIM programs and services. Provide leadership and collaboration with CUNY and NYU Langone Health faculty and leaders, as well as with outside organizations, to design, develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum, courses, scenarios, and other initiatives related to healthcare simulation. Focus on engaging CUNY and NYUGSOM faculty and staff to optimize use of NYSIM as an important component of student learning experiences, such as in-situ consultations and simulation learning events.

Work closely with programs and leadership to establish annual goals and track progress. Facilitate the design, collection and reporting of NYSIM utilization, engagement, and user experience data to inform NYSIM programming and faculty/staff development needs. Foster a culture of continuous improvement in educational programs focusing on quality and safety through research and outcomes analysis. Contribute to the development and management of a shared repository of faculty and learner resources at NYSIM that are easily accessible by CUNY and NYUGSOM faculty and learners.

 

Departmental Goals – Assist with the development and implementation of a strategic plan for NYSIM. Promote teamwork, communication, respect, diversity, excellence and collaboration to create a safe, non-judgmental learning environment.

 

Faculty Development – Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation education programs to meet simulation-related development needs of CUNY and NYUGSOM faculty and staff, as well as to outside organizations as needed. Provide simulation education consulting and mentoring services to CUNY and NYUGSOM faculty, staff, and leaders, as well as to outside organizations as needed. 

 

Simulation Education Training – Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation fellowships, certificate programs, and other  formal training programs aimed at developing leaders in simulation education to further the reputation of NYSIM as one of the nations premier simulation centers.

 

Simulation Education Conferences, Events & Councils – Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of conferences, symposiums, seminars, summits, and other meetings focused on healthcare simulation. Serve as NYSIM liaison to CUNY and NYUGSOM simulation workgroups and advisory councils to provide simulation expertise and facilitate application of partner-specific objectives into NYSIM programs and learner experiences.

 

Operations – Provide counsel regarding technical, business, and operational simulation education related impacts of the Center. Develop appropriate inventory controls and documentation for Center supplies including disposable medical supplies, task trainers, and manikins. Ensure up-to-date technology and equipment. 

 

Compliance and Policy Development – In conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Simulation Education and NYSIM leadership oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures that are consistent with those of CUNY and NYUGSOM. The Director will demonstrate knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and the Centers vision, mission, and guiding principles and incorporate them into the performance of duties.

 

Scholarly Output – Promote the scholarly reputation and visibility of NYSIM via scholarly publications and presentations. Participate in and facilitate research activities related to healthcare simulation, and provide mentorship. Participate in professional development activities, including professional associations, attending conferences, workshops and webinars, and reviewing relevant literature. 

 

Special Projects – Support Assistant Dean of Simulation in planning & implementing special projects as it relates to program and business development for the New York Simulation Center for the Health Sciences (NYSIM).

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience. Minimum of two years of experience in planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and customizing clinical, educational or simulation programs. Experience with manikin-based simulation and OSCEs. Minimum of five years of professional experience in health professions education, with specific experience in clinical education. Excellent leadership, communication, and team building skills including the ability to interact and collaborate effectively with learners and the healthcare community, and all levels of organizational personnel at CUNY and NYUGSOM.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in healthcare or an earned doctorate in a related field. Direct clinical experience is preferred.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $117,107.95 – $176,400.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Step 2

Schedule Interviews

If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.

Step 3

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
