NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physical Therapy Assistant – Per Diem – Physical & Speech Therapy – Per Diem – Variable Days, 8:00 A.

In this role, the successful candidate Treats inpatients under the supervision of a New York State licensed Physical Therapist. Documents the daily treatment provided, the response to treatment and education provided regarding disease process. The Physical Therapy Assistant is able to use all physical therapy modalities with emphasis on therex, transfer, balance and gait training.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Responsibilities.

Performance Expectations:

  • Works under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.
  • Follows treatment plan as outlined by primary physical therapist.
  • Observes, records and reports to the therapist the conditions, reactions and response to assigned duties.
  • Assists with supervision of the Rehabilitation Aide and PSA
  • Responsible for written progress notes on patients assigned, ensuring all progress notes are recorded immediately after treatment.
  • Takes an active role in Physical Therapy Departmental meetings.
  • Follows established Policies and Procedures and safety precautions in the use of all modalities.
  • Checks equipment and devices prior to patient usage.
  • Lectures and gives demonstrations for the hospital staff and general public as requested.
  • Participates in the Departmental Performance Assessment & Improvement activity.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competence in the area of Infection Control, the role of employee health, patients rights, fire and safety and quality assessment.

  • Legibly documents in the patient’s chart, on interdisciplinary sheets, and any other hospital forms all aspects of Physical Therapy care.  This is to include screening examination, response to treatment, discharge planning, family conferences and communication with other health care professionals.
  • Selects relevant information to document the delivery of physical therapy patient care.
  • Documents any patient or family education on the hospital Patient and Family Education form.
  • Produces documentation that follows guidelines and format required by the practice setting.
  • Participates in activities addressing quality of service

  • Seeks information regarding quality of care rendered by self and others under their supervision.
  • Provides recommendations for developing or modifying guidelines based on outcome measures, effectiveness studies and clinical observations.
  • Follows established guidelines for the delivery of physical therapy services. (eg, critical/clinical pathways, protocals)
  • Participates in Performance Assessment and Improvement program.

  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and techniques by attending related conferences/seminars, reading appropriate journals, books etc.  Participates in inter and intra-departmental instruction.

  • Develops and implements plans for self improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Completion of an approved Physical Therapy Assistant curriculum with an Associate Degree approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.
New York State Education Department Certificate Number.
Current New York State Physical Therapy Assistant registration.
Ability to walk and stand for up to 75% of work time, and lift and turn patients.
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 75% of work time.

Step 1

Schedule Interviews

If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.

Step 3

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
