Beware of Phishing
Phishing is a common tactic used by cybercriminals. Individuals disguise themselves as trustworthy sources, using electronic communications such as emails, text messages, phone calls, QR codes, or social media to deceive people into sharing sensitive information. Fraudulent messages may even contain familiar names or email addresses.
Tips to Stay Safe
- Always verify authenticity before providing sensitive information.
- Check the email domain.
- Be suspicious of unsolicited job offers.
- Be attentive to spelling, grammar, and messaging.
If you receive a request for sensitive information, contact the requester through another means to verify. Note: You will never receive a request for bank account details while applying for a job.
Confirm and only engage with emails you receive from NYU Langone that end with @nyulangone.org. Any variation is a clear indicator that you are receiving a fraudulent email. Do not engage with any emails ending with @nyulangone.online or any other variations.
You will not receive a job offer for a position you did not apply for. Also, you will never be asked to provide sensitive information, such as your social security number, before you have accepted a job offer with NYU Langone.
Phishing emails often contain spelling errors, poor grammar, and messaging that is informal, unprofessional, or poorly written. Also, beware of any urgent calls to action, such as clicking on a link or an attachment.
