The Patient Saftey Officer is responsible for leading the vision, strategy and implementation of Patient Safety activities across Bellevue hospital.

Safety Event Reporting

  • Track, trend and manage VOICE event reporting for “good catches”
  • Evaluate patient safety concerns in aggregate VOICE data and within specific incidents screened by Risk Management.

Root Cause Analysis

  • Participate in root cause analysis discussions and advocate for patient safety principles in corrective action discussions
  • Report any system-wide concerns to the system Patient Safety Council for evaluation of system-wide improvements

Leapfrog

  • Coordinate data collection and entry for Leap Frog twice a year along with Quality department
  • Identify and participate in performance improvement projects related to low scoring areas of Leapfrog

Culture of Safety Survey

  • Organize distribution of the survey every two years
  • Categorize the results by department and discipline to share with executive leadership, department leadership and front-line staff
  • Track action plans

National Patient Safety Goals

  • Track and trend data/improvements for National Patient Safety goals
  • Regularly share updates in trends to executive leadership
  • Utilize recognized/standardized tools for analysis such as run charts etc. and approved methods of performance improvement i.e. PDSA.

Patient Safety Meetings

  • Attend monthly System-Wide Patient Safety Council meetings
  • Coordinateand lead monthly hospital-wide PS meetings
  • Review reported incidents, trends of national patient safety goals, good catches, and any other pertinent projects

Patient Safety Rounding

  • Participate in proactive observation and education round on a regular basis
  • Collect, track, and coordinate action plans for shared patient safety concerns
  • Share PS improvements regularly with front-line staff

Patient Safety Education

  • Regularly educate staff on National Patient Safety Goals, how to report safety events and the importance of reporting

Patient Safety Projects

  • Help mentor and sponsor patient safety projects and encourage submission to conferences such as IHI or for awards such as HANYS Pinnacle Award
  • Support, assist and participate in system wide initiatives related to patient safety

Patient safety plan preparation and revisions

  • Prepare and revise annual patient safety plans

Regulatory site visit preparation and management

  • Support and assist hospital in preparing, managing and completing CMS/TJC surveys related to patient safety
  • Review sentinel event alerts and respond to them in a timely fashion to ensure patient safety

Disaster & Emergency management

  • Support leadership and participate in planning, mitigation and response to emergencies to ensure patient safety is safe guarded

Proactive risk assessments

  • Apply FMEA/PRA techniques to new processes or a major changes in existing processes to ensure patient safety (CQO has been doing this and we have considered it the inverse of an RCA.)

Just culture implementation

  • Support, advise and assist in implementation of Just culture across the organization to improve perception of safety and psychological safety

Physician candidates from any background specialty will be considered.

This positon will be 50% Patient Satey effort and 50% Clinical effort. 

 

Competitive benefits and salary offered.

 Salary range: $250,000 – $350,000

 

Licensed Practicing Provider MD/DO

Advanced degree in Business Administration or Public Health, preferred

Knowledge in: Patient safety, Performance Improvement, Risk Management, Regulatory & Accreditation, Healthcare Administration, Data & Reporting, Policy, Leadership, Education.

Step 1

Apply Online

The NYU Langone hiring process begins with you applying through our online portal. Be sure to update and upload your resume. Shortly after you submit your application, you will receive an email confirmation. Ten days after applying you will receive a talent assessment to be completed.

Step 2

Schedule Interviews

If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.

Step 3

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
