NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Cardiac Vascular Tech – Cardiac Cath Lab – Per Diem. 

In this role, the successful candidate Provides health care services to patients coming to cardiac Catheterization Lab. Performs hemodynamic monitoring and reporting of cath procedures to include interpretation and analysis of hemodynamic waveforms and data input to the patient reporting system . Assists Interventional Cardiologists and vascular surgeons in the performance of diagnostic and interventional cardiac and vascular procedures. The Cardiovascular technologist will be cross-trained to perform a scrub technologist role to assist physicians during Cardiac Catheterization and vascular procedures. Responsible for student supervision and evaluation for those students assigned to them along with periodic orientation of new staff. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. By performing all tasks in an efficient, responsible and caring manner, the employee will be dedicated to meeting the needs of customers and staff. In doing so, will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care with respect to the special needs of each patient age group serviced as well as those persons with disabilities. Assists in maintaining inventory needed for procedures and stocks supplies upon receipt.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Operations of Hemodynamic Monitoring and reporting system.
  • Performs warm-up procedures on equipment.
  • Prepares, sets up hemodynamic and reporting system at the beginning of procedure
  • Accesses patient demographic information via interface
  • Enters all required patient information into the reporting system
  • Ensures proper connection between monitoring system and patient
  • Ability to troubleshoot when issues with connectivity
  • Ability to transfer report to syngo dynamics system for final report
  1. Patient Set up
  • Explains each step of the action plan to the patient, as it occurs to elicit the cooperation of the patient.
  • Assists the team in setting up patient on the procedure table.
  1. Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
  • The appropriate application of the ALARA principle and the proper application of the radiation safety standards related to time, distance and shielding.
  • The appropriate use of gonadal and lead shields
  • Monitors fluoroscopy time as required by BMHMC policy.
  • Maintains controlled access to restricted area during radiation exposure.
  1. Completes and evaluates all required documentation.
  • Confirms patient identification and verifies the procedure requested or prescribed; identifies patient with name and date of birth.
  • Reviews the patient’s medical record to verify the appropriateness of a specific exam or procedure.
  • Corroborates patient’s clinical history with procedure.
  • Reviews request and/or medical record for verification of pregnancy Y/N status, if appropriate and document it.
  • Participates in Site Verification Procedure.
  • Reconfirms; patient identification, proper site and/or side of anatomy, informed consent and performs a procedural TIME OUT.
  • Ensures that all fields are completed with accurate information
  1. Provides patient care
  • Verifies patient identification; name and date of birth.
  • Preparing the patient for procedures, including providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
  • Assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications, patient history, insufficient patient preparation or artifacts.
  • Provides appropriate assistance to the imaging table based upon the patient’s condition.
  • Evaluates the patient and the procedure to identify variances that may affect the expected outcome.
  • Evaluates the process and recognizes opportunities for future changes.
  • Alerts physician and team of any changes in patient’s hemodynamics or EKG
  • Recognizes signs and symptoms of an emergency.
  • Call for assistance during emergency, activate Code 64.
  • Ability to assist with airway control during emergency situations
  • Monitors, records, and computes hemodynamic parameters during adult diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Advanced hemodynamic waveform interpretation to calculate gradients and valve areas
  1. Operates functions of HIS/RIS in accordance with Hospital and Department policy
  • By doing so performs all tracking and other functions that are appropriate to their job
  • Archives images or data.
  1. Education
  • Participates in continuing education and case review to maintain and enhance competency and performance.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and continued competency in the functions and operations of equipment, accessories, treatment and imaging methods and protocols.
  • Shares knowledge and expertise with members of the health care team.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Previous Cardiac Cath lab experience with strong knowledge of hemodynamics
Current BLS certification
Current ACLS certification
CCI Certification required within 1 year of hire
Associated degree in Cardiovascular/Respiratory preferred
Level of computer skill necessary in order to demonstrate a working proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Windows-based operating systems.
Physically able to perform CPR, lift and transfer patients, document and stand/walk for extended periods of time, and wear protective gear as appropriate for assigned area including, but not limited to, lead garments and isolation garments
Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 0-25 pounds.

Receive Offer

Training & Orientation

On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
