NYU Health Sciences Library and the Library’s Division of Digital Information Strategy and Access welcome applications from collaborative, creative, and experienced candidates for the position of Head of Resource Management. This position will work with senior leadership to help shape strategic initiatives related to discovery, access, and user experience of the library’s robust collection across the health system.  

The Head of Resource Management will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the library’s resource management and resource sharing teams. This position plays a critical role in overseeing the access and management of the digital and physical collections of the NYU Health Sciences Library in alignment with the library’s mission and the broader goals of the institution. Key responsibilities include strategic planning, vendor relations, and maintaining access points for resource discovery and digital access.  

This position reports to the Chair of the NYU Health Sciences Library and the Director of the Library’s Division of Digital Information Strategy and Access.  This is a faculty appointment within the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. This is a hybrid position where a typical week combines remote work with required time on-site. 

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning and Administrative Leadership 

  • Serve on the Library’s Management Council and collaborate with senior leaders in advancing the vision, mission, and goals of the library; 
  • Supervise and mentor direct reports within the Resource Management and Resource Sharing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and service;  
  • Set strategic direction for the Resource Management team, with a focus on resource lifecycle management, cataloging, and managing access in collaboration with publishers/vendors;  
  • Set strategic direction for the Resource Sharing team (Document Delivery Service), with a focus on responding to patron requests and the efficient transfer of books, book chapters, articles, and other materials to NYULH users across multiple campuses and to external libraries via Interlibrary Loan; 
  • Facilitate alignment and coordination across library units by working collaboratively with leaders responsible for Acquisitions, Resource Sharing, and Discovery Systems to ensure strategic integration of policies, workflows, and services; 
  • Lead or co-lead cross-functional projects involving licensing, access, discovery, and user experience; ensuring shared priorities and clarity in ownership across teams; 

Budget Strategy 

  • Collaborate with departmental senior leaders to develop long term financial strategies, adhere to the financial plan for the year, and participate in annual budget planning and forecasting for the collection, including resource sharing; 

 Collections Assessment 

  • Ensure licensed resources align with the needs of all integrated hospital libraries and other NYULH locations; 
  • Oversee and conduct qualitative and quantitative assessments of resources, using tools such as cost-per-use analysis, user feedback, and document delivery statistics to support evidence-based collection development decisions; 
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of shared metrics and dashboards with departmental senior leaders to support data-informed decisions across the Division of Digital Information Strategy and Access; 
  • Establish and maintain the accuracy and integrity of institutional holdings in OCLC; 

Publisher/Vendor and Consortia Relations 

  • Serve as the primary liaison for publisher and vendor relationships involving access issues, including maintaining accurate IP ranges, technical troubleshooting on the vendor side, metadata, and other related items. Delegate with the team as needed; 
  • Communicate publisher and vendor changes, outages, and resource updates to Library stakeholders clearly and efficiently, to enable creation and dissemination of news alerts and promotional materials; 
  • Serve as a backup liaison for the consortia partnership with NYU Division of Libraries on cooperative license agreements and shared integrated library and discovery system;  

Access, Discovery, and Workflow Integration 

  • Coordinate with the Discovery lead to ensure the seamless integration of licensed and owned content into library systems, including the catalog, link resolver, and other relevant places;  
  • Collaborate with the Discovery team to ensure access-related workflows are optimized and well documented; 
  • Provide leadership on issue resolution pathways for digital resource access, overseeing escalation procedures and service standards while delegating day-to-day troubleshooting as appropriate;  

Resource Sharing 

  • Provide leadership and support for the Resource Sharing team; 
  • Promote resource sharing to build and maintain strong relationships with the NYU Langone Health community; 
  • Annually update publisher/vendor ILL restrictions to resource sharing teams to ensure that lending practices comply with license agreements; 

Research 

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and approaches (e.g., AI tools, open knowledge infrastructure, linked data) for their relevance to digital resource management and access; 
  • Assess impact and use of the library’s collections in relation to institutional priorities. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in library/information science or related fields or another relevant advanced degree; 
  • 5 years of professional librarian experience within an academic or health sciences library, including a minimum of three years of experience managing and developing staff; 
  • Enthusiasm for working closely with varied users in a dynamic academic medical center environment; 
  • Adept at coordinating work efforts in a highly collaborative team environment; 
  • Strong service orientation with excellent oral and written interpersonal communication skills;  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Ex Libris’ Alma and Primo VE, including management of electronic collections, portfolios, link resolver configuration; 
  • Knowledge of OpenURL linking and tools such as CrossRef, Unpaywall, and Unsub to enhance discovery and support open access initiatives; 
  • Familiarity with metadata and interoperability standards, including OpenURL, MARC, and KBART; 
  • Familiarity with ILLiad, Docline, OCLC WorldShare, or other interlibrary loan platforms; 
  • Familiarity with EZproxy or OpenAthens.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York State Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $100,000-125,000 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
