NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women’s imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Hospital Safety Manager – Security – Full Time Days – Security – – Monday – Friday 09:00 AM – 05:00.

In this role, the successful candidate Overall Role and Primary Responsibilities
The NYU Langone Health – Suffolk Hospital Safety Manager provides leadership for compliance with accreditation (e.g., Joint Commission (TJC), DNV, etc.) and life safety standards, any and all Federal, State and other Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) over safety requirements, including OSHA, EPA, DOH, etc. Serves on the NYU Langone NYULH Suffolk EOC Committee and collaborates with Environmental Health & Safetys (EHS) health and safety and construction program managers to implement, monitor and ensure compliance with NYU Langones safety policies and programs at the NYULH Suffolk Campus.
Leads the EOC Committee in its efforts to monitor and ensure that NYULH Suffolk has an effective environmental and occupational safety management program. In conjunction with NYULHs EH&S Division, develops and communicates strategies, priorities and recommends corrective actions to facility leadership, department directors/managers and employees.
Provides ongoing training as required and needed. Actively participates in policy development. Performs/reviews risk assessments and maintains all associated documentation. Conducts safety rounds of the facility, prepares deficiency lists, follows up on all corrective actions and maintains associated documents. Helps to ensure always ready physical environment that is fully compliant with NYULH policies, EPA, DEP, OSHA, local Fire Departments, Suffolk County Fire Marshalls Ordinance, DNV, Joint Commission, DOH, and CMS Standards, Rules, and Regulations.

    1. Functions as the facility Hospital Safety Manager for NYULH Suffolk and Article 28 offsite facilities. 
    2. Actively participates in the development and updating of EOC Safety Management Plans with NYULH Enterprise personnel.
    3. Conducts periodic inspections to evaluate the effectiveness of the ESMP. 
    4. Actively participates in the Annual Evaluation of the ESMP. 
    5. Works with NYULH Suffolk departmental managers to assure the objectives, scope, performance, and effectiveness of each of the environment of care management plans, as related to safety and hazardous materials, are evaluated at least annually.
    6. Jointly works with NYULH Enterprise staff to draft Annual Evaluations of each of the EOC Management plans.
    7. Coordinates the on-going, facility-wide collection of information about deficiencies and opportunities for improvement in the environment of care.
    8. Coordinates the preparation of summaries of deficiencies, deficiencies, failures, and user errors related to managing the environment of care and disseminates to department heads for follow-up.
    9. Assists in defining performance indicators for evaluation of the Safety Program, and in assisting others with reporting performance indicators to the EOC Committee. 
    10. Coordinates the preparation of summaries on findings, recommendations, actions taken, and results of performance improvement (PI) activities.
    11. Coordinates the on-going collection and response to other sources of information, such as published hazard notices or recall reports.
    12. Presents EOC minutes and reports to the general EOC Committee and other committees as assigned.
    13. Prepares an annual report on the Environment of Care at NYULH Suffolk.
    14. In consultation with NYULH EH&S, coordinates and/or participates in the development of departmental and facility wide safety policies and procedures. 
    15. Reviews departmental EOC policies and procedures to assist in making them consistent with and integrated into the Enterprise-wide safety management plans.
    16. Participates in hazard surveillance rounds and incident reporting and actively participates in the safety process as a member of the EOC Committee.
    17. Works with other managers to initiate appropriate actions and recommendations based on analysis of incident reports and other information.  Ensures issues are properly monitored and the results reported to the committee.
    18. Assists in the enforcement of interim life safety plans and infection control risk assessments measures.
    19. Collaborates with EH&S Construction Safety team to ensure compliance with NYU Langones Construction Safety policies and requirements.
    20. In collaboration with NYULH EH&S, responds to, investigates and monitors injury/illness trends and major accidents/incidents.
    21. Under the direction of NYULH EH&S, addresses regulatory health and safety violations and complaints as required.   
    22. Conducts risk assessments and assists other responsible managers in conducting risk assessments.
    23. Serves as a technical resource on environmental and occupational safety issues and provides recommendations for eliminating and controlling hazards.
    24. Maintains and provides contact information for on-call personnel who can respond to off shift incidents involving environmental and occupational safety issues.
    25. Participates in the development, review and implementation of health and safety training.  Actively participates in the development and update of orientation training for new employees.
    26. Conducts training for employees and other personnel as necessary. 
    27. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Education:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental or occupational health & safety, Industrial Safety/Hygiene or related field is required. Master’s degree preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience:
1. DNV/Joint Commission and or other accreditation (required min. 5 years)
2. Healthcare Environment of Care (required min. 5 years)
3. Hazardous Materials Management and Processes (preferred min. 5 years)
Professional Certifications:
Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (Preferred)
Certified Hazardous Materials Operations or Technicians Level (preferred)

The salary range for the role is $81,689.30 – $138,182.23 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
