Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Project Coordinator.

We are seeking a qualified, full-time Project Coordinator to support the development and implementation of community-based programming and interventions to address public health impacts of extreme weather as part of NYU Langone Health’s Community Service Plan (CSP).

In the New York City metropolitan area, residents are regularly exposed to extreme heat events, storm surge, cloud burst flooding, and poor air quality. Extreme weather events can increase rates of cardiovascular, respiratory and vector-borne illnesses, particularly for sensitive and at-risk populations. In addition, changing weather can impact local food supplies, public infrastructure, and hazard exposures. These impacts also compound social risk factors such as homelessness and food insecurity, as people living through an extreme weather event might lose their home, possessions, and access to food, clean water, education, and healthcare facilities.
NYU Grossman School of Medicine is a world-renowned center of clinical and academic excellence, home to leading experts in healthcare sustainability, population health, clinical translational research, and community-based participatory action research. Launched in 2024, the Sustainable Adaptation for Frontline Environments (SAFE) initiative at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine addresses concern from NYU Langone patient populations about extreme weather events, with a focus on extreme heat and poor air quality. This role will support development and implement solutions that enhance community-centered resiliency and reduce environmental exposures and associated health impacts for communities vulnerable to these hazards. This role will work with diverse populations to develop educational materials and workshops on environmental health; engage with city, state, and federal entities to support extreme weather resilience; and implement, evaluate, and sustain community-based environmental health programs. The Project Coordinator will work under the general supervision of and reports directly to SAFE faculty co-Lead(s).

    • Support content and training for frontline staff including community workers, physicians and social workers on health impacts from extreme weather hazards.Develop and lead in-person community engagement sessions to identify additional knowledge gaps, concerns, and opportunities related to extreme weather hazards for NYU Langone patient populations.
    • Engage with government representatives, policymakers and agencies to align project priorities with federal, city and state goals.

  • Research Support
    • Support research activities of SAFE, CSP, and collaborating partners. Present findings as applicable.
    • Conduct literature reviews and assist with manuscript and presentations.
