Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Director-Nursing Quality.

In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, leading, and evaluating core/administrative/consultative nursing programs including but limited to professional and leadership development, quality and performance improvement, and practice. Collaborates with nursing leadership in the advancement of the nursing strategic plan. Provides leadership and performs evaluation of nursing and related interdisciplinary compliance with all regulatory agencies and the appropriateness of patient care and facilitates resolution of identified issues. Works collaboratively with the Chief Quality Officer and enterprise-wide Nursing Quality and Education departments in the development, implementation, and evaluation of hospital-wide interdisciplinary quality & performance improvement initiatives; develops communications and presentations from the Vice President of Nursing & Patient Care Services, and Peri-operative Services, and other special projects as assigned. In conjunction with senior leadership, strengthens the integration of nursing professional practice, and implementation of the Magnet Model toward Magnet designation.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the preparation for nursing response to issues identified during TJC, CMS, NYS Department of Health and other regulatory surveys.
  • Articulates understanding of nursing process, interdisciplinary collaboration, quality and performance management, patient safety, continuum of care concepts, patient experience, employee engagement and healthy work environments.
  • Demonstrates and enhances others understanding of nursing and patient care standards as integral to and supportive of professional practice, professional models of care, participatory leadership, and the values espoused by the Departments of Nursing and the NYU Hospitals Center.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the value of professional nursing, the conceptual framework in which it is practiced, and the features of an organization that attracts and retains nurses.
  • Demonstrates understanding and implications of nurse-sensitive quality and other clinical indicators and provides leadership to nurses at all levels in achieving positive outcomes related to these indicators.
  • Provides mentoring and leadership to staff in promoting evidence based practice at the Nursing Practice Council and coordinates development and review of nursing process standards.
  • Leads nursing quality and performance programs at the departmental level, supporting service and unit level programs: a. Assists unit based leadership in developing quality and educational initiatives that reflect their specialty and achieve evidence based practice.
  • Facilitates the integration of quality and educational programs throughout the hospitals. a. Compiles organization wide outcome data for nursing quality indicators for reporting purposes.
  • Exercises partnership with the Chief Quality Officer and enterprise nursing quality teams in developing integrated and complementary quality and performance improvement organizational goals and leading such programs that transcend departments and hospitals.
  • Collaborates with Chief Medical Officer, Chief Quality Officer, Chief Nursing Officer in leadership and facilitation of the Partnering for Quality (P4Q). program
  • Collaborates with enterprise nursing quality and professional practice teams with assessment of regulatory compliance for nursing and patient care services and ensures compliance with internal and external regulatory mandates.
  • Coordinates and develops the Magnet recognition program, aligning nursing practice, strategic goals and patient outcomes with the Magnet model. Supports staff in exemplifying a culture of quality and safety; uses evidence-based practice to achieve improved outcomes and nursing excellence, reflecting the components of the Magnet Model. Provides consultation to interdisciplinary teams about the program.
  • Collaborates with the VP of Nursing and the enterprise wide quality and professional practice teams in coordinating development and revision of Patient Care Standards; serves as a resource in identifying and facilitating development of comparable patient care and nursing standards at all sites.
  • Collaborates with Chief Regulatory Officer to ensure standards are current and compliant with all regulatory requirements.
  • Supports unit based leadership by developing and disseminating reports to highlight trending outcomes.
  • Coordinates review of patient complaints and occurrences related to nursing care and assists nursing leadership in development and implementation of corrective action plans and responses.
  • Works collaboratively with the Center for Innovations in the Advancement of Care to promote participation in nursing research studies, publications, and presentations.
  • Works collaboratively with the department of Integrative Health to promote staff participation in integrative health practices to support a healthy work environment.
  • Assists the VP of Nursing and other leadership in special projects, such as an Annual Reports, Board presentations, quality program dissemination and publications.
  • Develops and maintains networks with respective external organizations for mutual and benchmarking activities.
  • Develops, coordinates and maintains the Nursing Professional Governance structure and facilitates the council meetings
  • Participates in the Executive Nursing Council, Nursing Leadership Council, Nursing Quality and Patient Safety Council, and other teams as required.
  • Participates as a representative of the Departments of Nursing at the Hospital Quality Improvement Committee, Patient Safety Committee and other hospital and medical board committees as indicated.
  • Provides consultation for nursing education and professional development to ensure that educational programs for all levels of nursing staff promote quality, safety and achievement of hospital goals and meet all regulatory requirements in alignment with nursing strategic plan.
  • Serves as consultant and expert in developing standards utilizing evidence based literature, regulatory requirements, and pertinent professional nursing standards.
  • Provides consultation and education to nursing leadership, nursing staff, and the organization about the Magnet Recognition Program and Model, and the principles of a professional practice environment supportive of the goals of departments of nursing and its strategic plan.
  • Maintains expertise in clinical and managerial competence: a. Perform an annual self-appraisal.b. Develops a professional development plan annually. c. Earns 15.0 contact hours annually in addition to mandatory educational requirements.
  • Participates in leadership development programs in areas pertinent to expertise and interest.
  • Performs continuous quality improvement assessment of nursing quality and regulatory compliance programs, modifying the plans, recommending and adjusting approaches to enhance quality outcomes.
  • Uses sound methodology in analyzing data, evaluating outcomes and driving excellence.
  • Participates in the annual evaluation of the hospital quality, safety, and performance improvement plan as pertains to the Departments and Hospitals Centers goals.
  • Utilizes and communicates evidence based practice in the development of the quality & performance improvement program of the Departments.
  • Participates in the preparation of staff for periodic inspections/surveys by regulatory agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Licensure: Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York; Education: Bachelors in Nursing: Masters in nursing administration, or related field required; doctorate preferred. Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in acute care nursing; minimum of 3 years of leadership experience; teaching, consultation and project management experience desirable. Competencies: Excellent writing, editing, and graphic skills; excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; possesses quality and performance improvement methodology; self-directed, understanding of change management, professional practice, project management, and current issues and trends in nursing and health care; Possesses knowledge, understanding and vision of the Magnet Model as enculturated in the Departments of Nursing; Ability to communicate vision and goals of the Departments and NYUHC; strengthen integration of standards. Computer expertise in word processing, spread sheets, developing data sets and expertise in analyzing, interpreting and presenting data using graphs, tables, etc. Certification in nursing administration, or quality management desirable..

Schedule Interviews

Receive Offer

If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.

Step 4

Training & Orientation

You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
