The Department of Population Health (DPH) at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, together with the NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in health care policy research.
Applicant contributions may involve a wide range of health care policy research areas, including research on models of insurance coverage and healthcare financing, impacts of Medicaid and Medicare policy on access to care, quality, and health outcomes, or the study of other emerging shifts in healthcare delivery on health and reducing health inequities, including telehealth and expansion of ambulatory care.
Successful applicants will have the opportunity to join two NYU schools, with a primary appointment in the Department of Population Health:
(1) NYU Grossman School of Medicine is one of the most dynamic and highly ranked academic medical centers in the nation. The Department of Population Health is a vibrant department engaged in highly rigorous research with a strong and sustained focus on translation and health equity–locally, nationally and internationally. Interdisciplinary collaboration with clinical departments, basic science departments, public agencies and community partners is a hallmark of our work. Faculty in DPH lead, co-lead, or substantively contribute to a strong portfolio of interdisciplinary and translational large collaborative grants. Faculty work closely with many Departments in the School of Medicine, with other colleges and departments across NYU, and with local, state and federal policy partners. There is substantial opportunity and encouragement to engage with the NYU Langone Health System as part of faculty academic work.
(2) NYU Wagner’s mission is to empower public service leaders to create and to implement innovative policies with sustainable impacts on the public good. Our faculty, through their research, teaching, and public service, transform approaches to resolving complex public interest problems that defy easy solutions. Our students develop interdisciplinary analytical and managerial knowledge and skills as part of an active and inclusive community dedicated to serving the public interest efficiently and equitably. An NYU Wagner education also cultivates a deep appreciation of the diverse contexts in which public needs arise and must be met, and students benefit from the extensive local and global resources that New York City offers. Wagner graduates emerge with the capacity and motivation to work across the public, nonprofit and private sectors as they design, implement, and evaluate policies and processes that meet public needs in countries, cities, and communities around the world.
The Department of Population Health and NYU Wagner, through our Health Evaluation and Analytics Lab, have a long history of studying the New York State Medicaid program, taking advantage of our access to nearly-real-time Medicaid data. These data have been linked to information on social determinants of health and have been used to study specific interventions in New York hospitals. Candidates have an exceptional opportunity to lead collaborations with the State of New York to examine the effects of changes in the State’s Medicaid program.
Candidates should hold a PhD, DrPH, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree and be able to demonstrate scholarship through teaching, publications, and extramurally-funded research. A track record of successful extramural funding, particularly in NIH funding, is important. The successful candidate must demonstrate interpersonal, written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate, collaborate, and establish and maintain good working relationships with a diverse population of multi-disciplinary researchers, faculty, staff, and community partners. Strong desire and commitment to research, teaching and practice in areas including, but not limited to, health disparities, social determinants of health, and related topics. Faculty are expected to teach one course per year.
NYU Langone Health is an equal opportunity employer and committed to inclusion in all aspects of recruiting and employment. All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply and will receive consideration.
