We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Manager-Building Service.
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for overseeing the cleaning operations in assigned areas throughout the Perlmutter Cancer Center. Ensures a clean and sanitary environment ensuring that all department employees have a thorough understanding and use of all cleaning equipment and supplies and perform their duties satisfactorily.

Position Summary:
Responsible for overseeing housekeeping operations within assigned areas of the medical center. This role ensures that established cleaning protocols and programs are followed to maintain a clean and sanitary environment. A key focus of the position is enhancing the patients experience by ensuring that all areas of the medical center are kept in optimal condition for patients, visitors, and staff, contributing to both safety and comfort. The manager is expected to closely monitor operations, while identifying process improvements to increase efficiency, and driving patient throughput. The manager is expected to continuously assess and optimize workflows to ensure that the medical center meets its high standards for cleanliness and sanitation. In addition to overseeing day-to-day operations, managing resources efficiently, monitoring supply usage, and identifying areas for cost savings without compromising the quality of the work. The manager will have a team of supervisors and is expected to support and guide them. The manager is expected to provide leadership and mentorship to their team, helping to develop their skills and manage performance. The manager ensures accountability within the team, addressing issues as they arise and holding supervisors responsible for meeting environmental cleanliness and operational standards. Recurring documented meetings and communication and teamwork with the supervisory staff are key to achieving success in this role.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Directly manages the supervisory personnel in various areas and oversees the performance of the frontline staff. Ensures assignments are understood and institutes appropriate follow-up with supervisors to ensure the desired outcomes are reached. Allocates resources appropriately so that assignments can be accomplished in a timely fashion. Makes allowances for individual initiative. Communicates to the supervisors their responsibilities and the standards of performance. Counsels the supervisors and employees (if necessary) in areas of their performance which require improvement and/or development. Performs a written evaluation of each supervisor after probation and thereafter on an annual basis;when performance dictates the need, completes additional evaluations. When indicated, implements the Medical Center’s disciplinary process in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Responsible for overseeing patient throughput by ensuring staff adherence to EPIC protocols, while actively collaborating with the Patient Placement Capacity Command Center teams to prioritize and optimize patient flow effectively. This includes monitoring compliance, ensuring staff is sectored appropriately, addressing workflow issues, and facilitating clear communication to ensure timely patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Responsible for ensuring HCAHPS scores meet established goals by actively monitoring the programs effectiveness and its impact on patient experience. This includes regularly rounding on the environment to assess patient satisfaction, addressing concerns in real-time, and implementing service recovery strategies when necessary to enhance the overall patient experience.
- Develops and encourages a program of staff development. Plans the training and development of all staff in advance of implementation. Recognizes and identifies staff needs and develops staff programs to meet those needs (i.e. in-service training). Encourages supervisors and staff to pursue continuing education and seek professional growth. Ensures that supervisors maintain detailed records of performance and training status of probationary employees.
- Participates in developing, planning and implementing new programs, including the development of related procedures/processes. Communicates the need for new policies and procedures to leaderships in a timely manner. Understands what the departments goals are and sets objectives to meet them. Submits reports/plans, which are requested by leadership timely. Uses verifiable data as a basis for planning. Develops short– and long-range plans for the accomplishment of goals. Anticipates deviations from plans and makes additional strategies for accommodations. Presents new innovative ideas, gives them the appropriate follow-up; and if necessary me required adjustments
- Monitors all BSD (linen, and patient transport) activities for all the assigned areas under responsibility. Reviews service (cleaning/moving) needs and schedules the workload of the various areas to ensure efficiency and the delivery of quality service. Provides guidance, direction, and recommendations for efficiencies in all BSD lines of service (linen and patient transport). Takes steps to correct errors in the delivery of BSD services either through direct action or communication to ensure quality service. Reviews all documentation completed by supervisor staff for compliance with procedures and clarity.
- Arranges work to reduce or avoid overtime. Uses supplies efficiently and ensures that supplies are stored in a secure area. Uses equipment efficiently and ensures that equipment is in good working condition, cleaned and stored in a secure area.
- Prepares reports and maintains statistical records. Research information accurately and thoroughly. Composes related and required information in a clear and well-written manner.
- Ensures adequate supplies and equipment are available and properly maintained. Checks to ensure that all equipment is maintained according to manufacturer’s specifications. Reviews broken equipment to ensure it is properly tagged and repaired. Ensures that equipment is not being abused and is stored in a secure area. Makes recommendations for the replacement of equipment as necessary. Ensures there is always an adequate level of cleaning supplies available.
- Maintains safety and sanitary standards in areas of responsibility. Prepares quality assurance reports and accident reports and submits them to Leadership Reviews daily reports completed by the Supervisor to address issues and resolve problems. Makes periodic inspections of areas of responsibility and submits inspection reports to the Director on a timely basis. Ensures OR logbook is compliant. Ensures that all safety, health, and sanitation regulations are met in accordance with Federal, State and City regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Associate’s Degree in a related field. Minimum four years of supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent communication skills necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in management or related field

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $64,350.00 – $86,871.71 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Schedule Interviews
If selected to continue the interview process, HR will reach out via phone or email first. Then, depending on your position, they will schedule an interview with unit managers or team members. You are encouraged to dress professionally for all interviews.
Step 3
Receive Offer
If you successfully complete the interview process and are identified as a finalist for the position, we will require that you complete a professional reference process. After evaluating the completed references, a decision will be made on who will receive a preliminary offer. If you receive a preliminary offer, HR will start the onboarding process with an agreed-upon tentative start date.
Step 4
Training & Orientation
You will be contacted by an onboarding specialist who will work with you on your pre-boarding requirements. Once fully cleared, we will ask you to complete compliance orientation regulatory training. On your first day, you will attend an online required orientation to acclimate to the health system and report to your new department based on instructions provided by your hiring manager.
