Time Expectations:

Full-Time; Monday – Friday 9:00AM – 05:00PM

General responsibilities:

The Associate Director of Psychiatry will provide direct patient care, clinical guidance, and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members within Behavioral Health and Ambulatory Medicine settings. The position is fully in-person, with provision of services both in-person and via telehealth, for an adult population. The physician is responsible for all aspects of psychiatric patient care, including safety and quality. The physician will engage within a primary clinical site, providing clinical support and at additional Gotham sites, as directed. The psychiatrist will provide direct patient care, assessment, medication management, therapy and/or consultation and supervision of treatment, for individuals receiving behavioral health and physical health services. The Associate Director will lead a team of prescribers and other clinical or non-clinical staff as assigned and function as a member of the Behavioral Health leadership team.

Direct Patient Care

 

1. Provide direct care to patients referred to or assigned to behavioral health services, including best practices for medication management, appropriate and timely care, and comprehensive documentation.

2. Complete psychiatric admission assessment, with a focus on comprehensive risk assessment for all new patients, and re-assessment of patients, in a timely fashion consistent with policy.

3. Has or is willing to develop experience in the full range of medication assisted treatment (MAT) options.

4. Conduct appropriate outreach and relevant documentation as per policy.

5. Complete treatment plan documentation consistent with policy and appropriate to patient’s risk level. Partner with interdisciplinary team members to review and approve care plans.

6. Participate in and conduct inter-disciplinary team meetings as per the standard of work and policy.

7. Provide crisis intervention when needed through appropriate use of de-escalation. Provide leadership during outpatient behavioral health crises across the facilities).

8. Participate in medical codes, in the clinic, until the Code Team arrives.

9. Work with all teams to help patients move through appropriate levels of care

10. Appropriate risk stratification and re-assessment of risk level

11. Consideration of referrals to community resources like AOT, ACT etc.

12. Clinical partnerships and referrals within system, to other Gotham sites.

13. Participate in discharge planning and include referrals to alternative levels of care.

14. Collaborate and coordinate with primary care and other medical specialists, including practice team members to provide clinical guidance and to secure access to care.

15. Participate in clinical work within the Integrated-Behavioral Health and/or Collaborative Care teams across the Gotham System.

16. Participates in and conducts clinical tier reviews, as per policy.

17. Other clinical tasks as assigned, and appropriate with license to practice.

Supervisory/Administrative

In addition to the clinical duties, and at the direction of the Director of Mental Health Services, the Associate Director will have 20% of their effort reserved for supervisory activities related to the prescribing provider staff, including but not limited to:

1. Provide supervisory oversight to clinical team members, including but not limited to Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers, and Psychologists.

2. Participation in conducting clinical staff meetings, orienting and mentoring physicians and mid-level providers and ensuring clinical staff is continually trained and supervised and that activities of medical staff are coordinated with other operating units of the organization.

3. Supervision of all prescribing provider staff, including performing new hire orientations, conducting peer review process, corrective action counseling and terminations.

4. Provision of regular, ongoing, and special reporting in functional areas. Responsible for submitting, reporting, and reviewing incidents as indicated by policy; participate in incident review committee and Root Cause Analysis committee.

5. Fostering an environment that promotes Gouverneur’s Quality Assurance and Improvement Program and is responsible for removing barriers to achieving quality in medical care and for reporting to internal and external committees and entities, as required. Participate in utilization review and management.

6. Participation and a proactive role in customer service related issues and ensures to adhere to the values created by Gouverneur by continually striving to improve and provides quality patient care, treating everyone with respect and dignity, promoting teamwork and cooperation to create an environment that maximizes efficiency and satisfaction, encouraging open communication and adhering to all established ground rules.

7. Provision of leadership, vision and direction, and assists in formulation and/or revision of clinical services policies and protocols.

8. Maintain awareness of the standards for certification by the various regulatory agencies. Assist in the preparation for surveys.

9. Attends and represents Gouverneur to collaborating agencies, at specific institutions, and at conferences, as requested to enhance collaborative efforts with these organizations and institutions.

10. Addressing site provider needs assessment on an on-going basis.

11. Provision of overall direction and coordination of continuing medical education, training, and support for health care personnel.

12. Maintaining affiliation with appropriate professional organizations.

13. Coordination and collaboration with partnering academic and clinical affiliations for the provision of resident training activities.

14. Collaboration as directed to develop strategies and policies and provides consultation within scope of responsibility.

Graduation from an approved medical school.

Completion of a residency in psychiatry at an accredited institution.

3+ years of post-residency training.

Supervision/Leadership experience preferred.

License & Credentials

License to practice medicine in the state of New York.

American Board of Psychiatry Eligibility/Certificate in Psychiatry.
