Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Registered Nurse Navigator, Gender Affirming Surgery Program – PART TIME.
In this role, the successful candidate The nurse navigator dilation specialist in the gender affirming surgery program coordinates care and referrals for the perioperative transgender and gender non binary patients and provides ongoing communication to patients during the surgical intervention and experience The nurse navigator dilation specialist provides direct patient care to the patient population through the teaching and education around dilation through health promotion and health education activities with focused attention on improving the patient experience
Job Responsibilities:
Indirect report to Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager KP 11 Coordinates the immediate pre intra and post operative surgical care of gender affirming surgical patients receiving vaginoplasty and vulvoplasty nbsp;
- Assesses all vaginoplasty/vulvoplasty patients for potential social determinants of health and identifies solutions to ensure that patients are prepared for their recovery procedures in the best state of bio psycho social health Coordinates any issues or concerns with inpatient plastics/urology team and gender affirming surgical team
- Additionally works with patients receiving vaginoplasty surgery in the urology department due to congenital abnormalities nbsp;
- Consults and educates patients with clinical nursing staff on dilation douching drain care wound care after gender affirming surgery
- Consults and educates patients with clinical nursing staff on dilation and douching drain care wound care after gender affirming surgery nbsp;
- Coordinates and communicates plans of care with the pelvic floor physical therapy team regarding vaginoplasty patients nbsp;
- Participates with Assistant Director of LGBTQ Clinical Services and to help facilitate referrals to other providers within the NYU Langone Health system specializing in LGBTQ Health
- Provides patient education to ensure smooth progress to surgery in the preoperative phase of care and ensures patients knowledge of the overall plan of care including hospitalization and post discharge care expectations nbsp;
- Participates in all vaginoplasty surgery classes offered to patients to answer questions specifically related to hospital stay and/or questions around process of dilation
- Maintains ongoing communication with all peri operative patients and among all members of the gender affirming surgery team to ensure the best experience for patients nbsp;
- Participates in education activities within NYU Langone Health
- Maintains expertise in clinical competence by participation in continuing education professional organizations and other related activities nbsp;
- Completes all mandatory educational requirements Earns 15 contact hours of continuing education annually nbsp;
- Evaluates performance in a timely manner based on professional practice standards benchmarking and criteria established by accrediting/regulatory agencies nbsp;
- Establishes and implements a professional development plan annually
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Current Registered Professional Nurse in New York Baccalaureate degree in nursing required Masters degree in nursing or related field preferred A minimum of four years of clinical practice in the care of the patient population served #59; Ability to apply nursing process toward achievement of specific outcomes in an organized fashion which addresses patient/family satisfaction; Demonstrates the potential for leadership; demonstrates ability to develop guide motivate nurture and coach others; participates in service or departmental committees staff and/or patient education programs Evidence of strong interpersonal skills effective communication skills and creative problem solving; Membership in pertinent professional organizations; Physical stamina manual dexterity visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities.
Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in nursing and a NY State license as a Registered Professional Nurse required 3 5 years of hospital nursing experience REQUIRED: o Acute medical surgical care unit o Critical care o Emergency care o Post anesthesia care unit Experience in the care of patients receiving gender affirming care preferred

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $60.83 – $71.79 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
