Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Technician. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for processing and biobanking hematology oncology specimens according to protocol and maintaining the sample database.
Job Responsibilities:
Demonstrates knowledge of the organization’s Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
Lab Duties – advanced lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures. In addition to those duties expected of an Associate Research Technician, Research Technicians may be expected to coordinate the repair and preventive maintenance of lab equipment. Additionally, is expected to assist in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and records results of experiments. Skills required include sample processing including cell culture, flow cytometry, tumor cell sorting with magnetic bead selection and flow cytometry sorting, sample banking, and tracking and maintaining sample database. You will also assist in ordering and tracking laboratory supplies, performing routine technical tasks, and assisting in the general maintenance of the lab, such as preparing stock reagents and maintaining inventory of the lab’s supplies.
Assist in Developing Procedures – Assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments. Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures. Maintains and updates technical knowledge.
Cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of the Medical Center, coordinating with clinical staff and research staff to successfully biobank samples, and ensure all ethical and regulatory steps are in place. Listens carefully to others to respond appropriately, answer questions, or obtain needed information. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information.
Judgment/Decision-Making – Is able to recognize problems as they occur; and through the application of appropriate policy/ procedure, determine and/or recommends the appropriate solution. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to endure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.
Participates and performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Advanced (beyond basic lab training will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator). Effective oral and written communication skills required.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $50,000.00 – $66,780.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
