Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Bioinformatician. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for constructing and maintaining analytic pipelines and databases for human genetic research.
Job Responsibilities:
The bioinformatician will report directly to the PI, and work with various core facilities, collaborators, and members of the PIs research program. They will ensure compliance with data protection and sharing policies of the institution and government, including state, federal and NIH policies. The candidate must have experience working with data from digital biobanks (e.g. All of US, UK Biobank, etc.), and/or institutional electronic health record (EHR) data and genetic data. Phenotype data will be extracted from EHR, public databases, and collected directly from clinicians and research participants. Phenotype data will require cleaning, harmonization, annotation, and indexing to facilitate efficient retrieval for use as either exposure or outcome data in genetic or clinical studies as needed. Genetic data will include genome-wide genotype data, and variants extracted from exome sequence and/or whole genome sequence data. Genetic data will be received from core facilities and/or collaborators and in the form of raw data, individual-level variant calls, and/or summary statistics. Data will be used for cutting-edge research aimed at establishing and validating genotype-phenotype relationships to improve predictions of disease onset, disease course, and treatment responses.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Master’s Degree and training in computer science, data science, engineering, or related disciplines. Experience in Unix/Linux systems including High Performance Computing environments. Experience with human genetic research and/or research in EHR. Scripting languages: Python or Perl. Statistical packages: R (preferred) or Matlab. Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD level training in computer science, data science, engineering, or human genetic research. Experience with genetic analysis and research in EHR and/or digital biobanks using R / Bioconductor, Python, Julia, Jupyter.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $67,771.14 – $112,951.35 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
